I set the paper source to "Tray" but when I try to print a message displays "load mp feeder." I made sure mp tray was not the default or set for the paper source and still it will only print from the mp tray. Infoprint 1532 tray selection problems. My document is setup to print to the MP feeder, (multipurpose feed, not manual feed). The printer setup for MP is Cassette with legal size paper. The printer will only pull from tray 4. I'm not sure why, earlier this week it would only pull from tray 1. I am trying to find a sledge hammer for the ultimate fix. I have both pcl and ps3 printer drivers loaded on my WinXP pro. The ps3 has always been my go to driver in the past... I don't know if it's related, but I'm on a domain. Set as a power user on the pcl, but not the ps3.
Re: Tray selection issue: Documents may be setup to print...
The usual reason that the printer will ask you to load paper into the MPF is that the green paper guides in the paper tray is not clicked in the right position. It only needs to be slightly out of position to give the wrong paper size info to the printer. The easiest way to confirm if the guides are correct is to print the Menu Settings Page. Check that the paper sizes listed in that report are the same as the actual paper sizes in each tray. If it's different you need to adjust the guide correctly. It's remotely possible that the sensing switch is faulty but it's more likely that the paper tray guide isn't latched in it's correct position.

Hi. You need to do tray linking. When one linked tray is empty, paper feeds from the next linked tray. The size and type settings for all trays must be set from the Paper Menu. To set the paper type or size: 1. On the home screen, touch Menu button 2. Touch Paper Menu 3. Touch Paper Size/Type. Note: To link the multipurpose feeder, Configure MP must be set to Cassette in order for MP Feeder Size or MP Feeder Type to appear as a menu item. 4. Touch the right or left arrows to select the same size paper from all paper sources to be linked. 5. Touch the right or left arrows to select the same type paper from all paper sources to be linked. Note: When the Size and Type settings are the same for any trays, the trays are automatically linked. 6. Touch Submit. Submitting changes appears. 7. Touch Home to return to the home screen. Hope this helps.
That means whatever you are trying to print is set to feed from the MP tray or Multipurpose Tray. The tray that folds out that is used to feed thicker paper or envelopes in. Just check your print setup screen and tell it to feed from the lower tray or tray1. If that is what you were trying to do.
Ok.... I have these printers at work...and i think i have figured this one out :
Under setup menu , goto configure mp , then switch the settings from cassette to manual. You see these printers are used at Hotels where the bottom tray is for legal size paper used to make key packets and the mp is used for regular sized paper printing reciepts....Hilton family hotels use them for example....the next thing I'm trying to figure out is how to set it so I won't have to push the go button every time I print something
I would suggest checking printer properties in the computer and ensure the paper size and source is Letter and set to Automatic Choose. Another choice may be to deleted the printer driver and re-install it. You can also go into the menu options until you get to Set factory defaults, press Select, then try the print job again. I really suspect a program is controlling this from the computer. To get a list of the existing printer settings, Select Menu and use the Right Arrow button until you get to Printer Menu Settings. The printed report should tell you what your actuall settings are. Maybe the default is set to Custom, instead of Letter. The Set Factory Defaults option should fix most problems. TRAY 1 MODE= FIRST FIRST CASSETTE Determine how the printer will use Tray 1. FIRST: If paper is loaded in Tray 1, the printer will pull paper from that tray first. Go to Paper Menu > Paper Size > Tray 1 - note what the Auto setting states (Letter, A4, Legal, etc.) Pull the tray out to set what it is configured for. Then reinsert it & pull it out a few times, noting what the display show the Auto size show. It should match the tray's settings.
If the Display indicates otherwise, it means one of two things:
1) The "auto size sensing" board on the left may be defective. The left side of the tray has a matrix of 3 plastic tabs that stick out in certain order depending on the tray setting. If this board fails, it may show Executive or A4 when the tray is set for letter.
2) The tray may be in-between two settings. Try to readjust the tray length setting between sizes. (You will notice the plastic tabs will change order.) The last time you loaded paper it may have pushed it just enough so that it is no longer seen as letter by the auto sensing board.
