Question about Maytag 24 in. MDB5600A Jetclean II Built-in Dishwasher
I have a problem with handle on my Maytag Quiet series 100 dishwasher. It seemed handle's spring seemed to be broken. When I pinch the handle, I don't feel a squeeze and spring back at all. But, I can still manage to open and close the dishwasher door. Is it ok for me to unscrew 11 screws and open the inside of door and investigate the handle part? Afterward, would I have a problem re-screwing back the panel. Ken U
I had the same problem with my QS 100. I disconnected power first via the breaker then removed the 11 screws. I couldn't loosen the two electrical connections, but the door pulled far enough away to inspect the handle mechanism. The plastic handle fell out of whole handle assembly rather easily because two molded plastic pins protuding from either side had broken off and were loose inside. There was also a pair of molded plastic v-shaped forks right on the panel to hold the handle assembly and these were damaged but they just to seem to act as guides only (as the handle assembly is held in by two of the screws that were removed). Replacing the v-shaped forks would require a whole new door which I am NOT doing. It looks like I can a replacement handle in the same color with new pins (I am reading they may now be metal) for about ##15. Pretty easy to disassemble and inspect, only about 15 minutes.

I just unscrewed the screws on my QS 100 dishwasher door. You will want to disconnect the power first. The 11 screws hold the plastic inner panel to the door sheetmetal. The plastic panel does have a couple electrical connections that stay connmected, but otherwise it lifts off plenty far enough to check the handle for damage.

To remove the power leads from the handle, push the two little locking tabs back about a 1mm
This will allow you to slide the whole electrical connector off the handle assembly
