Touchscreen not responding

My Garmin 650 Touchscreen will not respond to any touch. I used it in the car to get a route on during the drive I decided to change some settings, and nothing responded. I tried to power off and on and still no response to touch. I never dropped it or spilled anything on it.

How I fix it?

If the screen does not come on that is a serious issue--if it comes on but does not respond it is possible there is a reset for the unit--get in touch with the model number with Garmin---many of the GPS makers have a flat fee for a unit if it needs repairs---weigh the cost of repair versus the cost of replacement of the unit.

My Garnin Nuvi 760 has stopped responding to touch screen. It starts and eventualy opens a map but nothing I touch on the screen will respond.

The problem is probably with touchscreen (a thin film on screen)

You can try order a replacement touchscreen on ebay and replace it yourself
Tip: order a couple of them, they are cheap but extremely fragile

I had the same problem, but I had to change battery in my unit. I read a post that suggested I take a business card between the touchscreen

Touch screen not responding at all. Garmin powers up okay.

This is Garmin's response to me after having the same problem on a 2 year old Nuvi 650: We are no longer replacing or repairing this model unit. However, let me give you some steps to try to calibrate the screen of your unit. The following 'Fix' did not work. I won't be buying another Garmin.
To recalibrate the touchscreen on your nuvi 600 series device please follow the steps below:

  1. Plug the device into the computer via USB data cable
  2. Double click My Computer (Mac Users can skip this step)
  3. Double Click the Garmin or nuvi drive
  4. Double click the Garmin folder
  5. Delete the GUPDATE.GCD file (if this file is not on the device please skip to the next step)
  6. Unplug the GPS device from the computer
  7. Power the device off
  8. Press and hold the Power button
  9. After a short period a screen should appear that says Touch Dot
  10. Release the Power button
  11. Touch the dots as they move around the screen.

Your touchscreen should now be recalibrated.

If the screen is still not responding, then the unit will need to be replaced with a new unit at this time.

Please see this link for more info. It will tell you how to recalibrate your screen, check your units serial number to see if it has the touchscreen that has been known to fail and give you information on how to get it repaired.

Touchscreen not responding.

There are three levels of fixes, please try them in order:
1. Reset the GPS using the Reset button, on the back, just under the Antenna Hinge. Resetting will turn off the GPS, and then turn it back on, if connected to power. Test, if fixed, great, otherwise, go to fix 2.
2. Turn the power off, then press and hold the powerbutton for up to 2 minutes. The GPS will turn on, and display a "PreBoot Mode" message. When that message disappears, and the screen calibration screen appears, follow the on-screen instructions, and you are fixed. If you still cannot use the touch screen, repeat fixes 1 and 2 several times, just to be sure., then go to fix 3
3. The touch-screen glass has probably broken or lost its connection with the GPX motherboard. You can order new touch screen glass on the web and install yourself, if you are techy in nature, otherwise do a search for "garmin nuvi 660 repair" and choose your service.
