the pool is 42'' deep, i believe the water turns over fast enough.

it is a self priming pump. i was just wanting to know if this size pump would filter the pool correctly since most 15' pools use a 800 to a 1000 gal/hr pump. mine is only 530 gal/hr. the pool did not come with a pump. i already had this pump from a previous pool.

You can certainly use it -- the question would be: "does it turn the water over fast enough?".

    How deep is the pool?

I would agree on the turnover. Don't know if this is a self-priming pump or not. If not, it has to be installed below the top of the pool -- but I assume that's what you're doing, anyway.

The volume of water in the pool is: pi x r squared x h =

    (3.14 x 7.5 squared x 42"/12") x 7.48 gals / cu ft = 4600 gals

    Turnover Time = 4600 gals / 530 gph = 8 hours

Assuming a 15% head & friction loss, the turnover time would be 10+ hours. The recommendation is 8 hours, but I think this is close enough -- just means you may have to run your pump a little longer than with a bigger pump.

How much shock n swim for a pool 16 x42

What you appear to be asking is the volume of your Pool in gallons! Here is the formula and resulting answer:

Length X Width X average Depth X 7.5 (for rectangluar) (or 5.9 for a circle or oval)

You need to know 3 values:

The overall length in feet (assuming 42 on your note)
The overall Width in feet (assuming 16 on your note)
The average depth, take a depth measurement at 3-4 locations equally apart along the length from deep to shallow (or vice-versa) (example might 8ft, 6ft, 4ft, 3ft) add these measurements together and then divide the total sum by the number of depth measurements (example 4) this will be the average (example 5.25)

So the resulting formula would read 42 x 16 x 5.25 x 7.5 = 26,460 gallons for the example

So if your pool's average depth is about the same, then your volume is rounded to about 26,500

Your shock product should clearly state how much one bag will treat a given volume (example 10,000 gals) for regular treatment or shocking. Usually shocking involves doubling or even tripling the normal maintenance dosage, but check the product labels and instructions for manufacturer's recommendation.

Hi, We have this pool and the water turned green

If all the chemicals are corrrect ... I suspect copper. Have you used a sequestering agent to remove the metals?

If it is not metal it is algae - increase the CH to at least 20 PPM and run the pump as long as you can (24/7 if your manufacturer will allow it).

Thanks for your question @

Hi, How long is the extension cord you are using? if it is longer than 20 or 30 feet, that could be causing an issue with the current to the pump, and cause it to burn out prematurely.
If you have a manual for the pump, check to see if there is a limitation on the length of cord or distance from the outlet that you can set up the pump.

My model 603 filter pump leaks at the top under cap

It could be the o-ring on this model. There is a seal on these pool filters that looks like a rubber ring inside the lid. You might need to replace this ring if your pump is leaking here.

Brand new filter pump leaking

If it is brand new and leaking, it sounds like your pool filter has a connection problem. Check your connections to make sure that they are tight and sound and that you do not have any hairline cracks.
