Question about Intex 1500 Gph Swimming Pool Filter Pump Above Ground

1 Answer

Need help downsizing pool pump connection

My Intex Pool Pump 1500 gph stopped working so I was trying to use my old 1000 gph pump but I am need to be able to convert my 1 1/2" pump hose that is connected to the pool to adjust down to fit a 1" fitting on the other pump. I went to two hardware stores and no one could help me. There has to be an adapter out there that would work.

Yes, I want to keep using the original flex hose that came with the Intex 1500 gph Pump but attach it to a 100 gph Pump

  • medavis24 May 29, 2009

I meant to type a 1000 gph pool pump from my old pool.

  • medavis24 May 29, 2009

The old pump has the 1 1/2 in flex tube with a threaded ring attached that screwed on to the old pump and the new pump nipple is not threaded, it used a clamp.

The pump I want to use is the standard 1" nipple without threads that you just slide on the flex tube and clamp it down with a metal clamp.

Here is the hose that is connected to my pool, (1 1/2")but I need to be able to connect one end to my new pump which is just a non-threaded 1" nipple. Sorry, I am trying to explain it better. Thanks!

No, I know nothing about mating pve piping/adapters with solvent? Is that the same as pipe glue?

  • medavis24 May 29, 2009

    Yes!

Thanks charlie. Just wanted to let you know I got it fixed Friday after work. I went to Ace Hardware and found a rubber reducer 1 1/2" to 1" with clamps and attached them and everything works great now. If I have other problems, I will definitely contact this site.

I'm not totally visualizing this yet, but if you had a 1 1/2" non-threaded nipple on the new pump, would that allow you to clamp the 1 1/2" flex hose onto that nipple?

  • Samuel Charles Spriggs May 11, 2010

Yep, I was reading 1000 gph -- just because of the 1" ports, I guess.

I have extensive experience with adapting all types & sizes of hoses & pipes to all types & sizes of hoses and pipes.

I assume you have 1 1/2" nipples on the old pump and 1" on the new pump. And, the flex hose clamped onto the 1 1/2" nipples.

One way to do this is to install a 1" to 1 1/2" adapter on the new pump so you have the same size nipple you had on the old pump.

I'm assuming further, the nipples are CPVC. There are adapters available to do this job. The adapter(s) you use will depend on whether you have threaded or non-threaded nipples on the new pump -- could you tell me what you have on the new pump?

And, also correct any of my assumptions above.

    thanks...

Going by the picture, it appears that you are using flex hose -- is that correct?

Okay. I think I gotcha covered.

I have one mocked up here right in front of me.

Still going on the PVC pipe assumption...

- Install a PVC 1 1/2 " - 1" reducer on the new pump nipple.

- Install a short piece (nipple) of 1 1/2" PVC pipe in the reducer installed on the pump

- Install an 1 1/2" MIP adapter (PVC) on the 1 1/2 " nipple

- Screw the hose onto the threaded 1 1/2" MIP adapter.

There are several ways to do this -- the above is a good way.

Have you ever mated PVC piping/adapters with solvent? I can help you with the details of this if your unfamiliar with it...

I've never heard it called pipe glue, but I guess the term fits.

The process is pretty simple. Do you want to give this hookup a try?

  • Samuel Charles Spriggs May 29, 2009

Once you get the parts, drop me a line.

Do you know pretty much what to get?

Just replaced my 1000 GPM Intex filter/pump with the 1500 GPM. Worked great for about two weeks. Now it doesn't pump much with the filter in. Seems to pump fine without the filter.

The filter needs to be cleaned. the cartridge should be removed from the housing and sprayed on the o with a hose and sprayer. A strong, concentrated jet of water works best. I hope this helps.

Pump and skimmer instructions on how to

Direction of flow is FROM the skimmer to the pump and back to the jet. Its easy enough to determine which hose is the "jet" hose and which is the suction hose. Put both into the water, or in a bucket and turn on the pump, find the one that is shooting out water, that's the jet hose. On these systems, filter replacement and cleaning is annoyingly frequent if you want it to work even remotely efficient.
