I just got a GPSmap 60csx unit and I am trying to download a new map to it. When I am in the MapSource program I can view the map I would like to put on the unit but I can not get it to transfer. I can transfer data but not the map. I think I need to unlock the map but I don't know how to do that. How do you unlock a map to transfer it to your GPS? I have the bluechat atlantic V9 installed in my pc, works fine, then when try to export to gps unit it sends everything (routs, waypoints, maps) but the messege is: "impossible to unlock maps"
The device is a garmin 60CSx
You have use the unlock wizard to install the key that is provided with the software. When I bought my Mapsource CitySelect, it came with two keys. The way Garmin does it is, you can install the software as many times as you want on as many machines as you want, but can transfer the maps, data, etc ONLY to unlocked devices. Last I checked Garmin wanted $75 for additional unlocks. Some data is not locked, like Topo maps and some tide points since this data is obtained (by Garmin) from the gov't, which is free for us (wel, minus taxes we pay). Contact Garmin support, they are very attentive.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need. Goodluck!

You cannot load maps to the unit using the Trip and Waypoint Manager software. That software only does what it's called - it transfers routes and waypoints. To install maps onto your GPS, you will need Mapsource, which normally comes with the maps. Once it's installed on your PC, you hook up your GPS with a mini-USB cable, choose which maps you want transferred to the unit, and then the Mapsource software will knit the map segments together and transfer them over to the unit. Hope this helps.
Create a new file in Mapsource, with one anonymous waypoint, and one map tile and send to unit. It will then replace what is existing on the unit at present. Otherwise, you'll have to delete the waypoints one by one, but there is no way of deleting the maps (unless they are stored on the Micro SD chip - in that case, just reformat the chip).
when your in mapsourse make sure your gps is hooked up correctly and is loaded to mapsource...if so up in the main tool bar there is a tab called transfer-> send to device, or receive from device click on receive from device and a window pops up ask you what you want to receive maps, way, points, tracks, routes but make sure your device is showing
good rule of thumb is to plug your gps into your computer first then turn the unit on
I was having the same problem and contacted Garmin support.
What I had done was turned off the Basemap that came with the unit. I only had the mapsource map street map on which I had purchased separately.
The technician basically said the unit needed the basemap to "locate itself". Somehow the basemap supports any maps you purchase separately. That seemed odd but once I turned the Basemap back on it calculated the routes and the error message went away.
If you have the Basemap off, try turning it on from the Map Setup - Information window.
