Check the following,
. Speakers, connecting cables and Sound Card are working fine by connecting to another computer.
. Speaker Cable is connected to an audio port (Audio/Video port in system box).
. Volume is MUTE / Low (in Volume Controller).
. Audio drivers have installed.
To Check follow the Steps:
• Go to Start>
• Control panel>
• Double click on "System" Icon> (it shows the System Properties Window)
• Select “Hardware” Tab>
• Select “Device Manager” Tab> (it shows the Device Manager Window)
• Select “Sound, video and game controllers”>
• Expand “+” symbol> (check the audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers and others are not in Questioned Mark (?) symbol with yellow color. If there need to install the drivers ).
6. If not, insert the motherboad CD, browse>select audio driver>install. After completion, restart computer and check.

Just reinstalled windows xp and now my creative labs soundblaster live! audio card is not detected. did all the troubleshooting in the hardware manager and it says the the device is working properly. did...

You could have a ghost device in the system. Remove the card and start the computer in safe mode. Look at the device manager to see if there are any sound devices detected. If so, delete them. Now install the card and let Windows detect it. You probably left the card in the machine when reinstalling the O/S. You shouldn't have any peripheral devices hooked up when doing a reinstall of Windows XP.

Audio device erased

You have to reinstall your audio driver. Answers to your questions: 1. You can locate it in your Device Manager. Locate and expand Sound, video and game controllers. 2. You don't have to delete legacy drivers because reinstalling your audio driver will update it. Right click your audio software the one you found in the Device Manager and update it. It will find your installation cd of your system drivers. Else, manually install the audio driver.

No sound device

? mark means no sound driver install or errors in Device Manager. u can check ur mother board cd room or can search ur audio driver in web or below may be ur answer

Question: Where do I locate motherboard sound drivers?
Answer: Users who have motherboards with on-board audio (often with VIA, Realtek, or C-Media chipsets) may have issues with their audio or AC'97 errors in Device Manager. Often this is caused because the operating system has been reinstalled and the motherboard chipset drivers are not installed. To resolve this issue try following the below steps.
Let Windows redetect drivers
If you have not recently reinstalled Microsoft Windows it's possible that your audio drivers are simply corrupt. Open Device Manager and remove all devices under "Sound, video and game controllers" and any "Other devices". Once removed reboot the computer and let Microsoft Windows re-detect the audio drivers.
Motherboard chipset drivers
Reinstalling the motherboard chipset drivers will usually resolve this issue. If your computer came with a Motherboard CD, install the chipset drivers from the CD and the sound drivers if also available on the CD.
If you do not have a motherboard CD, obtain the motherboard chipset drivers from the motherboard manufacturer.
Sound card drivers
If after installing the motherboard chipset drivers you continue to have issues install the sound drivers. We suggest you download the sound drivers from the computer manufacturer or motherboard manufacturer.
A listing of motherboard manufacturers and their drivers can be found on our motherboard chipset drivers page.

Pl check the whether all driver from OEM have been installed including MB and try to reinstall the driver it should work fine. or reinstall the SP2 for win XP. then install the OEM driver again, this should work, else there might be hardware problem.

H D Audio Driver fails to install

Have you checked to see if the driver is already installed, and the volume is just turned down? (Start> programs > accessories > entertainment > volume control) If so, try going into Device Manager (right click My Computer > properties > hardware > device manager) See if the sound card is showing up there as a yellow question mark or other error icon, it will stand right out. If it's there, right click, and uninstall it. Now (still in device manager) press the button that looks like a computer screen with a magnifying glass on it, that will scan for hardware changes and pick up the sound card, which windows includes the driver for automatically. If this still doesn't work, try downloading from realtek here, and installing that. Hope this helps.
