Question about Samsung HLN467W 46" Rear Projection HDTV
After approximately 2 hours of operation the picture begins to flicker and then the color changes to green and purple. Once the set is turned off for a short period of time and then turned back on the color is normal.... for another 2 hours and then goes to the green and purple.....
The color wheel has been replaced and is not the problem.
Any ideas as to what is the cause???

if the picture is still visible but lacking color, it is not the lamp. check the color wheel and make sure it is working. replacing the color wheel is a pretty easy task and can be performed by yourself without many problems. as a sidenote, older samsung dlp tvs seem to experience this problem quite often, although they usually sound like someone strangling a cat before the bearings go out..
partstore.com should carry your replacement for 100 USD or so, the part number is BP96-00250A.
before replacing it, make sure your old one isn't just stuck or not spinning at full rpm, if this is the case, you can usually remove it and clean the motor using electronic or contact cleaner that is safe for plastics.
to check everything out, you will need to remove the back panel of your tv, then power it up (keep kids, small animals, hands and such away from the back while powered up), take a look in front of the projection lamp and see if the wheel is turning. if not, a very good writeup is available here, this is the writeup i send my own customers to if they feel like attempting the repair themselves.
replacing the color wheel is actually not very hard at all, if you have ever worked on your own desktop pc (installed a new drive or upgraded it yourself) then you should be able to do this with limited difficulty.
hope this helps,

Hello,This problem denotes a defective color wheel, I would not suggest that you attempt to change it becuse of the risk of causing more damage. I would advise that you have the Tv repaired by a qualified TV technician, due to problems I have seen when repairing sets like this due to improper reinstallation of the color wheel.I hope this helps,Thank you,Shuttle83http://www.electron-age-technologies-llc.com

The color wheels will never fix an issue like that. The only things that will cause that issue is a bad DMD board which is part of the light engine or the digital board which is not. Freak Squad need to replace the digital board.

Hi,If you are experimenting vertical lines ,black bars ,color
distortion, pixilation,or white dots on the screen you might be having an
issue with the Dmd chip. This is how the DMD chip works:

If this doesn't fix your problem, it may be the lamp. I experienced the same sequence minus thunderstorm, but it got to where it went from green verticals to just cycling on and of 5-6 times. New lamp did the trick.
