amps and wiring kits are very optimistic on the output. If you want proper wire, buy some welding cable "0" or "00" guage. That solves the power delivery. Put a 1 Farrad (or more) capacitor near the amp, that solves the surge power issue. Make sure the box is suitable for the subs. Lastly I'd say do some research and find the right amp that can deliver the clean, huge current required to move some serious air!
MY BEST GUESS FROM WHAT YOU HAVE SAID IS THAT THE BOX WAS TO SMALL. BUT YOU ARE OVERPOWERING THE SUB RUNNING IT AT 2 OHMS ON A 750 WATT AMP WITH A SUB THAT IS ONLY RATED FOR 600. NO MATTER HOW FAR YOU TURN YOUR SETTINGS DOWN, YOUR STILL PUSHING TO MUCH POWER FOR THE SUB TO HANDLE. IT IS ONLY RATED 600 WATTS FOR A REASON. ESPECIALLY IF YOU LISTEN TO MUSIC THAT HAS A REAL LOW END AND THEN A HARD HIT. REMEMBER A HARD HIT WILL SPIKE YOUR AMPS OUTPUT THEREFORE PUSHING MORE WATTAGE TO THE SUB.
your kicker cvr subwoofer should have a max power of 1600 watts therefore your amp is not too much for the sub because the p300-1 amplifier has a max output of 900 watts. if anything your amp would not be enough to produce max power out of your subwoofer. your sub should not produce an odor unless you have your amplifier bridged which doubles the watts pushed to your subwoofer and if that is the case your amp is pushing 1800 watts to a 1600 watt sub which could be causing it to fry or possibly blow soon. other than that if thats not the case there shouldnt be a problem.
you shouldn't need another batter. You aren't going to be disipating that much power all of the time. Your 2 Farad capacitor will help when the amp demands a lot of current during large bass hits. Just a question though, you say you have A CVT12 which is rated at 400 ohms rms and you are driving it with a 1400 Watt amp. Does this strike you as odd?
That 1600 watt peak power figure for your subwoofer can't tell you what amp you need. You need to know the maximum RMS power the sub can handle. And you need to know the impedance (ohms) of the voice coil(s). JBL GT5 series subs have an RMS rating of 275 watts. The GTO series handles 300 watts. The Power series handles 400 watts. The GTi series handles 700 watts. Some are single voice coil, so the impedance is fixed. Others are dual voice coil allowing you to wire them for different impedance loads.
For maximum performance your amp should be able to provide at or near the same number of watts RMS into the lowest impedance at which the sub can be configured. For example, if your sub is the Power Series Model number P1224, it has dual 4ohm voice coils and can be wired to present either a 2ohm load (parallel) or an 8ohm load (series). You want to wire the voice coils in parallel for the 2ohm load and select an amp that outputs up to 400 watts RMS into 2ohms. The Orion Cobalt CO8001 is just such an amp. If you have one of the GTi Series subs, a better amp would be the JVC Arsenal KS-AR75 which outputs 700 watts into 2ohms.
It depends on how you define the "best way". Driving each sub with a separate 750 watt amp will result in about 50 percent more power than having them share the output from a single 1000 watt amp. But with 2 amps, there's more wiring issues to contend with and the adjustments are more complex. The 2 750 watt amps will cost more than a single 1000. Plus if the 1000 watt amp is stable to 1 ohm, the power difference will actually be less than 50 percent because of the lower impedance. But if the 750 watt amps are also stable to 1 ohm and their outputs can be combined, we're back to 2 being better than 1.
I'd say that the simplest, most economical way is to use a single amp. If maximum power to the subs is the highest priority, and cost and wiring is not an issue, then 2 is better.
first whats the range in terms of WATTS that your 12" sub can handle in 4 OHMS ? second , lets check the AMP , POWER ACOUSTIK 1800 WATTS , Now thats a lot of power to drive a single 12" sub speaker . your amp is 1800 watts , per channel is around 500 watts , if BRIDGE thats around 1600 watts rms for ONE channel , if your sub can handle that kind of wattage fine , but it will not blow the amp , what it does is shuts down , some kind of protection mode , it will come back on after a minute or so. I suggest to use one channel in stereo mode , or purchase another sub to use the other channel. i hope this helps AJ
