Question about Kodak EasyShare DX4330 Digital Camera

DX4330 black screen, retracts and opens on its own

My DX 4330 is about 6 yrs old. Imagine, $300 for this camera back then that buys you much more and a better camera now. It has intermittingly retracted and extended the lens on its own. I recently discovered it uses normal AA Alkaline batteries, as the NiCads cannot be ordered, its a new size that does not fit in the charger.  NOW the problem is, like I see elsewhere on posts, the camera is showing a black preview of every picture and video image (sound records) I take.  LIke you had the cap on when taking pictures! Kodak refers me to a Precision Camera, and even if you leave the trouble posting field blank, it still comes up $130+ to repair. So even if someone who is senile doesn;t know the camera works but thinks it doesn't like turning it on, and they send it in, ther charge $130? PATHETIC!
Any answers to the shutter problem?
I am weighing in to either buyy a Kodak Z1285 or a recommened Canon SD 1100 or the new 1200 (less MP and Zoom, but sounds like a thinner and better camera, less aggrevation with batteries.
PLease respond with your experience with the DX 4330.
Thanks, Larry designer58@comcast.net

How do I download my Kodak DX 4330 software when it is not compatible?

Copy it off of someone else's computer that has it. Install on yours.

They didn't come out with Win7 drivers and software for the DX4330?

Then you'll have to use a computer that has WinXP / Win Vista, whatever, except Win7.

Does the DX4330 have a memory card?
Take it out, put it in the appropriate Card Reader slot, in your desktop computer.

Download photos.

Card Reader isn't compatible?

Take your desktop computer outside. Set it on the road. Asphalt or concrete is OK. Tie a long rope to it, and the neighbors pickup.
Tell him there is a gasoline sale. "Go boy, fetch"

romiok, You didn't mention the Canon model. If it is a CCD failure, certain models will be repaired free by Canon. But if it's only two years old, it's more likely that you're experiencing a stuck shutter. In that case, see this article for some troubleshooting steps that might help.

My pentax option A10 turned black on the screen and won't open

Since the screen went black BEFORE the lens retracted, it makes me think this is a main board problem. The only other possibility is that it is the lens assembly, but since it went black BEFORE the lens retracted, I don't think that is it. I can replace the main board for $40, or you can send it to pentax in Arizona, and they will do it for about $90.
The main board is NOT something that I would suggest anyone try to replace as a DIY project. There are too many small screws, and delicate connections to deal with.
You can contact me at: mrfixitmark at comast dot net

If you just want to sell the camera as-is, I also buy all pentax a10, a20, a30, a40 cameras, in any condition.

Lens won't retract and now the screen flashes and then is black. Is it repairable for less than buying a new one in the $300 range?

I had a camera that got sand in the lens and it had a problem similar to this. Those lenses are sensitive and once you jam one it's pretty hard to fix. It would probably cost less for a new camera, and hey, it's always a good excuse to upgrade ;)

Kodak EasyShare DX4330 - shutter does not open

the problem seems to be the lens assembly, the electromagnet for the shutter does not work because the tiny film-wires are broken from wear and tear when you are zooming in and out
i corrected the wires myself but i am having trouble assembling back the lens, hope that helps all of you! it's a flaw in their design! (or not! :))
