The win modems were junk and were software modems and worked about half the time, but if your modem says no dial tone then you need to try a new phone cord check that the phone cord is firmly pushed into the slot, if the wire fell out make sure the tiny wires are not bent on the phone card, so if you replace the old phone cord that will test that theory if it still does not work then try your modem setup, do you have the modem set faster than 9800 baud rate if so it won't work but would still not cause no dial tone. Also is the modem securely in it's slot? if it still does not work go to a command prompt and type ata and hit enter does the modem respond ok? if not you need to open control panel remove the modem and try reinstalling the software drivers hope this helps and good luck, if you buy a new modem buy a hardware modem, they are more expensive but are much more reliable.

Usually the no dial tone error is not a driver problem but rather a problem with the modem itself. Modems are really finicky and even the slightest surge through the phone cord from an electrical storm can cause the modem not to get a dial tone. You will need to replace your modem and that will solve the issue.

The internet connection that you use doesn't matter with WinFax, since WinFax requires a fax modem to send and receive faxes. You cannotuse your broadband modem to send receive faxes with WinFax PRO. http://www.getfaxing.com/forums

MY WINFAX IS NOT CONNECTING TO SEND. THE LINE WORKS, I HEAR THE TONE DIALER DIALING, THEN THERE IS A LONG PAUSE WHILE "CONNECTING" MESSAGE APPEARS. THEN BRIEFLY THE MESSAGE DISPLAYS "NO CARRIER" AND CLOSES...

This is usually a line connection, or dialing problem. Are you sure the fax modem is connected to a working telephone line? are you sure your sending to a fax machine? Do you require any prefix (like a 9) to make an outgoing call? Are you dialing all the proper digits to make a call?

You need to setup a fax modem to be able to send and receive faxes with WinFax.

In WinFax, click on Tools, Setup.
Click on Modems & Communications Devices.
Here you can configure your fax device.

You need a fax modem, a DSL modem or a cable modem is not a fax modem.

Check the physical connection of the phone line to the computer make sure that it is connected to phone line symbol of the Ethernet adapter. Then make sure that the driver of the adapter is installed properly on the computer or you can try to scan the hardware first before the re-installation of the driver using the adapter.

Its possible you've set your faxes to send in FINE resolution (200 dpi), I am not sure about MS Fax, but in WinFax you can select both Standard Resolution and Fine resolution as the default for sending faxes.

Yes, some modems might have problems with Service Pack 3. You might need to update the Windows modem drivers.

Alternatively, there might be problems with the settings in WinFax for your specific modem.

You'll need to post more information on the fax modem you are using.

No dail tone report

some dial connections dont like the filters attached. does the new modem have more then one ethernet connection on it? have u tried it on another connection if u have on in the house? it may just be your settings in the computer. are you using the same computer for both broadband and dial up? if you are then you may need to adjust the settings in your computer, your isp should have done all that for you.
