Question about Jandy Laars Lt 400,000 Btu Heater

Heating problem with laars lx400 boiler

Burner continues to operate when pump switched off. low pressure sw operates correctly, and 24v present at both white leads to gui. normally when pump switched off, heating ceases, and "low pressure" comes up on gui display. this no longer happens. heating works normally only when pool/spa/off is made to "off" after pool temp is brought up to required temp, then made to "pool" when heating required again.at no time does the "low pressure" warning come up.

SOURCE: My pool heater will not start. The power light is off and the pressure sw is lit.

You must turn on the pump and let water circulate through the pool and the heater before you turn on the heater otherwise you will ruin the heater

If the unit is lighting then shutting off then repeating it isn't rectifying, means not sensing the flame. May have a bad flame sensor or ignition control. I'm guessing your AGS is indicated on the GUI also.

SOURCE: I have a Jandy Laars LX Pool-Spa Heater

You have a serious issue call a qualified heating or mechanical contractor sounds like a lock out or solenoid which is designed to shut off gas/flame for things like not blowing your backyard up is doing it's job. Or take the advice of a faceless stranger and hope you get it right 400,000 btu is about 7 x's the average home furnace so should be quite a boom

My new Laars NeoTherm boiler (NTH150) was making a whining noise soon after install. The noise was audible through most of the home. Replacing the air/gas blower solved the problem. Correct sizing of pumps is also important to reduce (water-flow related) noise. Having done all that my Laars boiler still isn't particularly quiet in its start-up and (modulating) operation. It should NOT be located below or next to a bedroom.

Air flow failure indicated on heater

Mine does the same. Sounds like you checked the air pressure switch, but the high temp switch and bad airflow can also cause this problem. Check the two white wires that lead to the heat sensor vent drain tube exits. Make sure the spade connectors aren't shorted. Try testing the temp sensor like you did the pressure switch to make sure the circuit is properly closing when in use (or use a temporary jumper to bypass as a test.) Check the bottom of the pan for any dust or crud that could block the airflow below or around the burners and last of my options- increase clearance around the unit to aid air flow.

I have a Laars Max Boiler 75, 90K with white smoke out chimney

Hello
Yes,more then likely its moisture from the high effenicey system of the boiler.

I have a laars boiler at work and some mornings when its cold out it looks like there is a fire, which is really only steam.

As long as your not shutting down on low water failure or loosing pressure and holding temp. This is normal.

Hope this helps.

you most certainly have a potentially hazardous condition. there is a pressure switch that is suppose to detect low or no water flow and interrupt burner operation.i suspect it is out of adjustment. there is a section in the owner manual that details adjustment procedure.it is actually quite simple to do,but if you not want to tackle this ,i would suggest not using the heater until it is looked at.
