We have an Ultimate Care II washing machine from Whirlpool and the timer knob comes off everytime you pull on it to start the wash cycle. How do I keep this from happening?
If there is a metal insert (with threads) you could try crazy-gluing the metal insert back into the knob -- be careful not to get glue on the metal threads. If this works, you can save a few bucks. If there is a metal insert (with threads) you could try crazy-gluing the metal insert back into the knob -- be careful not to get glue on the metal threads. These knobs are made of plastic and usually have a metal insert inside them. The plastic is the problem. Over time with use these knobs will crack inside near the metal insert. That's how they become so loose. This is an easy fix though. Call your nearest appliance repair service center and give them your model and serial numbers and tell them the part you need. You can usually locate the numbers you need under the lid of the machine. hope this helps you out. Good luck.

It seems a lot like a timer issue. Advice to you is the next time it stops just tap or knudge the timer knob, if it starts up then you just found your problem.
The threads either on the timer knob (part number 3364291) and the timer dial ( Part number 3957849, the
larger part of the timer with arrow) are worn. Pull the knob off and inspect the threads. Replace the part with the worn threads.
Lean washer on its back and check for broken wire from the motor wire harness up the back panel.
If you find the wire repair it and make sure the wire harness is secure in the provided clips.
here is one trick to do. put the timer on spin and pull out the timer knob. open the lid and use a screw driver to actuate the lid switch. then with your other hand hold the agitator until the tub gets to a high spin. once the unit is at a high spin then let go of the agitator. let the unit spin for another minute then lift up you screw driver. it should come to a gradual stop and not a sudden stop. let me konw if that works.
going through to the next wash not na normal function, perhaps the machine is advancing to an extra rinse cycle?? this EXTRA RINSE will start after the normal wash is complete, i would check your dial settings perhaps some one has mistaknely switched extra rinse "ON". if htis os not tyhe case the n i would jave to blame a faulty timer mechanism and you would need to replace the timer
ok if you look at the back corners on the back of console,,on each side you will see a screw in recess it a phillips head,,just remove these 2 screws 1 on each side ..than flip the console back towards the back of unit..replace timer...onthejob
on the back of the timer is a black plastic tab, you have to pull out on this tab in order to remove the knob. in other words you have to take apart the control panel to get to the timer just to take off the knob. :I
