Question about Technics SL-1200MK2 Turntable

No lights or responce (power issue)

My Deck seems to be dead. When Turning on My deck there seems to be no responce. I have changed the plug, the fuse, the socket Im plugging the deck into and still no responce. Is there an internal fuse that can blow? If so is it easy to replace myself? while replacing the stylus lamp, I saw a little spark, and now have the same problem, nothing works. I have a U.S. model (M) from about 1995, and they don't seem to have any fuses in them, at least not in the places the other models have them. any suggestions?

If you do not see fuses on the smaller pc board, next to the main PC board, underneath the turntable platter, then you don't have any. Not all 1200s series turntables have these fuses. So, that means you more than likely blew the Technics power supply / transformer.

Not an easy fix, and I don't recommend you do this, as seeing how you did not replace the pop-up light correctly, it seems you lack the experience. When you saw that spark, that means that you did not shield the pop-up light wires properly, a big mistake. It more than likely touched the cabinet, and created a short - very common. This short is enough to take out he power supply.

You will have to take your unit to an authorized repair center for repair.

Good Luck!

I took my Pioneer SX-450 Receiver and Pioneer CT-1040W Tape Deck apart to move it. Put it back together. Now can't get a tape to play.

After putting a known good tape in the deck, push play, if the tape doesn't move, try rewind and FF. If nothing happens, the deck has a problem. I assume this is a cassette deck. If so, I always try the thrift stores for a new(used) one. There are good bargains there.

Part of your PowerSupply is Frito.
Probably the +/- 15 volt rails, could be other.
Check inside power voltages, probably some regulators are gone.
Preferably get a tech unless you have the know-how and test equipment...

My technics cassette deck tr575 everything seems to work all the functions all the buttons but when I put a cassette tape in the unit I see no responce on the db meter... Everything is functioning on

There are 2 long switches, maybe 4" long, called record/play switches. These can certainly cause this. Try cleaning them with the power unplugged. You would turn the cassette deck on end, so the switches are vertical. Use LPS-1 or LPS-2, and spray a very small amount in the end. Work the switch back and forth and see if that helps. Good luck.

if you are still blowing fuses with nothing connected in the circuit you have a dead short-a pinched or grounded wire-look at the wiring going into the deck lid-you might call this the boot-the other stuff may be happening because the computor can't understand whats happening with the short going on-its confused-cheers Denny

Trying to set up just the amp & tapedeck of the Sony TA-AX335 integrated stereo system, but can't get the ribbon power cord to work.

Does the deck light-up at all, or is it completely dead? I've found that in aging tape decks, the belts will deteriorate, and change into tar. I've repaired several of the TA series Sony systems, and that's usually the case. If the deck is just 'dead,' I would recommend retrofitting standard RCA jacks on the back of the amplifier. The pins on the ribbon cable are clearly marked on the PC board inside the amp. Then, you could use any deck you want, or even a CD recorder. Hope this helps. :)

Did you recently update your iPhone 3GS firmware to iOS 4.x ? There is a signficant number of people with this problem after the firmware update. Here are two possible solutions that have worked for some people.

1) Turn off your iPhone (hold the power switch down, then swipie off). Turn the deck on to your USB1 or USB2 (whatever you are using). Now plug the iPhone into the deck. This should turn the iPhone on, and "reset" the connection to the USB.

2) Turn the deck on and switch to the proper USB source. Connect the iPhone to the deck, then initiate a "hard reset" of the iPhone (hold the power

Prot. light at High vol. (forget Bass CD)

You may have the speakers wired for the wrong impedance.

How many ohms per voice coil?

How many voice coils per speaker?

If the speakers are DVC, are the coils of each speaker wired in series or parallel?

Are the speakers bridged on the amp or one per channel?

No lights or responce (power issue)

There are two internal fuses that you can check, their positions and values are determined by which country the unit was sold in. You can get a copy of the service manual on the link below: http://www.backspin.org/sl1200mk2.pdf Make sure it's unplugged & the tonearm is secure before going inside!! I have indicated the position of the fuse in the attached picture. Please update the question & let us know if the information given was useful to you - Good Luck!
