These types of severe cartridge errors (i.e. "refer to documentation" / "incompatible cartridges", etc.) typically indicate the internal micro-electronics of the HP #60-61 cartridge are electrically damaged. The cartridge's electrical wire runs at rear and lower side of the ink cartridge, are very delicate and are somewhat susceptible to ink attack over time, which can lead to premature failures. In addition, the older the cartridge the higher the chance of an internal electrical failure due to prolonged ink exposure and subsequent circuit corrosion. I suggest you always run a 'Tap 41' diagnostic test to check cartridges electrical health (this is a forced test); you may also bypass the error (temporarily) on C4600-C4700 models which use HP 60 cartridges. I have put a tesco hp compatible ink cartridge in my hp 2050 deskjet printer but a msg comes up INCOMPATIBLE INK CARTRIDGES The cartridges listed above are not intended for use in this printer as...

This model Cprinter may only let you use genuine printer cartridges. If you try to refill these ink cartridges it will not work because the cartridges have an embedded chip in the cartridge that detects the empty cartridge even though it has been refilled.

Printer Error Message

Yes, there a few items you need to consider with respect to HP 61 (or 61XL) cartridge errors messages on any HP Deskjet 1000 through 3510 printer model:
If you get an HP 61 / 61XL integrated ink cartridge refilled (i.e. currently offered at Costco or Frys today) or if you buy a remanufactured/compatible HP ink cartridge, the ink levels cannot be reset (HP has a smart chip embedded within the nozzle plate at base of ink cartridge which counts the drops and then registers as empty).....so you'll just need to live with it and ignore ink low, non-genuine, counterfeit messages and similar while you are using these types of aftermarket supplies. The first video below provides an overview of this low ink phenomena.
If the new (or refilled/reman/compatible) HP 61 / 61XL ink cartridge refuses to complete the printer alignment following cartridge installation, then the ink cartridge either has a connectivity issue with the flexible printed circuit cable (inside unit where cartridge mates with cable), rear cartridge contacts or cable contacts are dirty with ink residue, or the cartridge is suffering from marginal internal electrical performance. Ensure you press OK or Cancel up to six times to clear out the printer error log.
These types of severe cartridge errors (i.e. Incompatible cartridges, Black/Color cartridge(s) problem / Cartridge not intended for this printer, etc.) typically indicate the internal micro-electronics of the HP 61 cartridge are electrically damaged. The cartridges electrical wire runs at rear and lower side of the ink cartridge are very delicate and are somewhat susceptible to ink attack over time, which can lead to premature failures. In addition, the older the cartridge the higher the chance of an internal electrical failure due to prolonged ink exposure and subsequent circuit corrosion. I suggest you run a Tap 41 diagnostic test to check cartridges electrical health (this is a forced service test so the printer will attempt to send whether cartridges are good or not); Refer to Inkjet411 youtube videos below:

Will 27 black and 28 tri-colour cartridge work on a D1560 hp deskjet

HP 21 black and HP 22 tricolor cartridges are the cartridges compatible with HP DESKJET D1560.HP 27 and 28 won't work with your printer because they won't get recognized by the machine. It will only give you an error message like incompatible cartridges.

Will HP 60 ink cartridge work with HP Deskjet 2460? Tnx.

This is all HP recommends for the HP Deskjet 2460, so I wouldn't suggest buying anything else. First of all it might not fit and second, even if it fits, other issues may come with using those. If you can't see the list here it is:
HP 21 Black HP 21 Black Twinpack HP 21/22 Black/Color Combo HP 21/22 Quad Pack HP 22 Tri-color Twinpack HP 22 Tricolor HP 58 Photo

Will only print color even though there is black ink left...If I set it to print with black ink, blank pages come out. I know there is black ink left so why doesnt it print when I set it to print black??

Hi Mel,
It sounds like your print head could be blocked or the black cartridge has gummed up.
Have you tried taking the black ink out, put a rag over the hole where it would normally come out (carefully as it could go all over you) and gently shake the cartridge, then replace it back in to your printer.
Try printing in black and see if it helps, if not then i would be quite sure that its the print head, if this is the case then the only way would be to contact HP as I'm not sure if its possible to remove the print head or even if HP supply replacements.
I hope this helps a little
Mike
