Question about Soyo P4VGM v1.0 (MB-SY-P4VGMV1.0) Motherboard

1 Answer

When I change the mobo jumpers from 100 MHz for 1.90 on the CPU to 133 MHz for the 2.53 the CPU is rated at, it won't boot.

SY P4 VGM mobo lets you set jumpers for 100 MHz, which runs the CPU at 1.90, or 133 MHz, which runs the CPU at the 2.53 it is rated at. At 100 everything boots fine but there is a minor prob with streaming video. I suspected the card but checked it in another system and it worked fine. When I set the jumpers to 133 MHz it won't boot??? Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated... Bear

Hi! I just made a cpu swap on my asrock p4 combo from socket 478 - 775, the new cpu is the 570J 3.8 ghz 800 mhz fsp 1 mb chache ofcourse i looked at the manual and changed the jumper settings from...

According to the Asrock site, the CPU you chose should work in your board. You are going to have to check the jumper settings, (see the manual page 11) jumpers J1,J2,J3,J4,J5,J6,J8,J9,J10,J11,J12,J13,J18,J21 only. You indicated that you also changed J7,J14,J15,J16,J17,J19,and J20 since your statement was "i looked at the manual and changed the jumper settings from J1-J21"

Also make sure you do not have a jumper block on the CLR CMOS down near the battery. If you left a jumper on, it will not boot

Also, make sure you installed the CPU correctly and did not accidentally bend a pin on the underside. see 2.2 on page 12 Installing the 775.

P4MAM-L with CPU P2.4GHz runs at 1.2GHz only

Reset your motherboard BIOS. Open your computer casing where the motherboard lies in and then find the bios setting jumper, it should be located near the battery. To reset your bios, refer to the motherboard manual. :-)

Ax4per with 1.8GHz does not recognize new 2.8GHz processor. Socket 478. BIOS is current. Is it not plug and play?

Hi,

Does it POST and can you get into the BIOS? You need to set the FSB to 133MHz and the Ratio to 21x.

(I am assuming you did install the CPU correctly and installed the fan.)

If you can't get into the BIOS, you may need to reset it using JP14 on the motherboard.

Turn OFF power. Remove the AC power cord. Hold the power button in for 5 to 10 seconds. (This is done to discharge any capacitors.) JP14 normally is on Pins 1 and 2. Place the jumper on Pins 2 and 3 for approx. 10 seconds. Then place it back on pins 1 and 2. Connect the power cord and turn it on. This will set all the BIOS settiings to default and you should be able to set the FSB and Ratio.

Do you have a manual for the MB? you can get it from:

ftp://ftp.aopen.com/pub/manual/mb/ax4per/ax4per-ol-e.pdf

Thanks for using Fixya.

Sy p4vgm won't boot when I set the CPU jumpers to 133 MHz instead of 100 Mhz.

Back to the jumpers again... Don't you know that those jumpers can cause your MB to fry? Your most touchy point is the temperature of the CPU chip. Do you have a way to see what it is when in the CMOS setup? If you do, OK! Maz temperature is about 55oC, even though they say 60oC. When you raise the voltage with the jumpers, you could create so much heat that your CPU chip will commit suicide. In your case there is protection against excessive heat. This probably is made for a much faster and more expensive computer. Once you have a way to monitor the temperature, carefully, you can try the higher frequency and WATCH the temp. You can increase the voltage to get up to two or three times the original frequency. This is called "overclocking". You will probably be requird to rebuilt the entire cooling tower, over the CPU socket, especially you will need a new and more powerful blower... One can get some extra life from an old computer, but now computers rae cheap when it comes to speed. Please let me know what are your decisions... That is how I am graded... Thank you for considering our help worthwhile!

Hav K7T266 Pro2 motherboard, can not get it to go past turning on

Lorna,
to change bus to 133 MHz, you need to unlock the speed by setting a corresponding jumper on the board to assign busspeed by bios. After doing so, you need to clear CMOS and reboot. Next you'll have to set speed and multiplier in bios. Ideally: 900MHz = 100 x 9. Alternatively: 133 x 6.5 If that doesn't help...check if your RAM-modules are any good anymore. When RAM is not functioning, CPU-error code may be presented, since CPU cannot read/write to RAM, therefore not function. Let me know how this turns out.
Kind regards,
Stephan

CPU installation

jamie,

on the mobo there should be a little table next to a set of jumpers that tells u what jumpers to set for the multipliers. These days this is done in the bios but if your board is old (P3 which it is) there should be some white set of jumpers about 3 in a row near the cpu with a little table printed next to it. You should set it up so the multipliers adds up to 933...my guess is you should double what you have now to get it to 900 which is closest u are going to get

good luck
