Fuel in the carb next to air screw

Hi, I have a Vespa 1967 fully restored but just av a problem with the engine cutting out after around 40secs. It runs perfectly when starting. To get the engine running again I have to take the plug out, turn the fuel off and crank it over a few times, then put the plug back in and then again turn the fuel back on and its starts more or less first kick. Anyone know what this could be?? Thanks. What does it mean if you have fuel in the bottom of the carb as in where the air mix screw is, the fuel isn't coming out of the float as I checked it.. I think it comes out of the air filter when I leave the fuel on all the time and try kicking it over....also is it a good idea to turn off your fuel supply when not using the bike?

    I think basically I have it running to rich as you said, I can bump start it and it runs really well, I took if a for a short ride and the spark plug when taken out is a nice brown clour... but I will turn the air screw in I suppose if that makes it run might be running to rich so I will not kick start or that's a case of just me leaving the fuel on all the time.

    Yeah I had the fuel on all the time due to me snapping the fuel tap while getting the tank back in place... so now I've fixed the fuel tap now so I'll fit the tank back in and see how it goes.

On old carbs they have mechanical fule pump. you may need to look into a new one or try pumping the gas a few times while turning it over.

and it means theres fule in the bottem of the carb.... the carb is an atomization chamber for fule. if you have to much fule (ie to rich) your going to have liquid fule at the bottem of the carb. this is bad, you need to lean out the carb bar turning the idle screws the right (12 o-clock to 9 o-clock...) just a bit at a time. and play with it while it's at idle to what you think is a good idea. you can hear it trust me just play around with it.

also look at the throttle advansment lever (it shoot gas in at wide open throttle as to not stall) its conected to your throttle cable.

AND YES IT IS.... your fule will evaporate and fast if don't.

    try closeing the fule for a day or 2 with plently of ventalatoin to the carb, then try leaning out the screws. if it's set right why mess around if all it was, was the fule left on. anyways best of luck.

Check the main jet is set up correctly. Make sure there is plenty of fuel in the float chamber, if not check the fuel line again. There should be a good amount of petrol flowing from the carb feed pipe with the fuel tap on. It should fill a pint container fairly quickly.

Vespa 125 ET4. Startup takes about 4 attempts to even start the engine. Once started, it shoots up high then when coming back down, just cuts out!

Hi, Kermithefrog and the usual suspects are:
1. Spark plugs in bad condition or have an improper gap or are partially fouled.
2. Spark plug cables in bad condition.
3. Battery damaged or nearly discharged, should have 12.5 volts.
4. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
5. Throttle controls not adjusted correctly.
6. Water or dirt in the fuel system.
7. Water or dirt in the carburetor.
8. Faulty fuel pump.
9. Intake air leak.
10. Fuel tank vent hose and vapor valve plugged, or fuel line closed off, restricting fuel flow.
11. Enricher valve inoperative.
12. Engine lubricant to heavy (winter operation).
13. Ignition is not functioning properly (possible sensor failure).
14. Faulty ignition coil.
15. Valves sticking.

Hi i have a t5 millenium it is fitted with a scorpion exhaust and a 115 main jet,the bike starts ok first kick with the choke out once started choke goes straight back in.when i ride it from cold i can not...

1. Fuel cap or fuel tank is not venting properly.
2. Fuel filter clogged.
3. Fuel line pinched or kinked.
4. Float needle and seat sticking.
5. Float level too low.
6. Carburetor bowl vent line clogged/blocked/pinched.
7. Idle adjusting screw set too low.
8. Air/fuel mixture screw set too lean.
9. Idle port, transfer ports, slow air jet clogged.
10. Slow fuel jet clogged.
11. Faulty fuel pump.

Kneed to clean my air filter and valves on my vespa p.x.125

Hi there! 1st: Your PX125 vespa is a 2T engine, and has no valves on it. Can you be a bit more specific on what you mean as valves?
2nd: The air filter cleaning is a very easy operation to accomplish:
1: take out your engine cover 2: remove two screws to free carb top case 3: remove two screws holding the air filter. Notice these are the outside screws, leave the middle big screw like it is, because it controls the idle speed. 4: clean your airfilter with clean gasoline or specific carb cleaner liquid... gas works better for me ;) 5: backwards steps to put everything back together. Don't forget to inspect if the air filter has no holes and everything looks ok :)

Need a manual or something I have a traxxas .15 stamped 2wd need to adjust the Carb it has 2 screws need to know which one does what and what would be a standard adjustment

There are actually 3 screws on the carb. The big one is the most important, it adjust the high speed fuel mixture. A good starting point is 2 1/2 turns out from fully seated. There is a small screw which is located right next to the air intake. This is the idle stop and should be set so that the engine idles smoothly. The third screw is located on the side. It is also small and it controls the idle fuel mixture. A good starting point for the idle fuel mixture screw is 1 3/4 turns out from fully seated.

My Vespa PX125 Disc loses power on the journey.

adjust air mixture screw at rear of carb tighten it first then loosen it 1& half turns give it a go

Engine cutting out when open throttle. YAMAHA NEOS 50cc MOPED

i had a simuler problem with my honda cr 250 moto-x bike it would start fine and you could keep it ticking over with the throttle(i have deliberatly unscrewed the tickover in case i come off,it will cut out) when i got on it,it would go for about 400-500 metres then splutter and die and not start again for around 5 mins. i immediatly knew it was a fueling problem. so after stripping the carb and giving it a good clean out i was baffled when i got back on and it still done the same. i then dismantled the fuel tap cleaned it all out and put it back together and tested it,it was very very slow so i unsrewed my fuel cap a little and was greated with the familur gush it should deliver. problem solved! the vent in my fuel cap had crystalised up,so the fuel was coming out but the air was not getting in,causing a vacuum and slowing down the flow and basically emptying the carb quicker than it can fill back up!!! clean your carb,fuel tap and any vents in your cap or tank. if this does not work then your bike must be over fueling or low on compression.
