Question about Dell OptiPlex GX260T PC Desktop

Dell OptiPlex GX260 video drivers don't work with Windows 7

As of right now, I can only use a max of 1280x1024 on my comp (which is far less than satisfactory when I've got a 22" widescreen.

Any ideas/tips?

Thanks in advanced

It's got a pretty shotty 64meg card in it, but when using vista or XP it can push 1680x1050

  • madzgame May 29, 2009

The max Windows 7 is allowing me to choose is 1280x1024, but I know my video card can push 1680x1050.

When I try to install the video card drivers from dell's website, Windows 7 says it wasn't meant to work with this OS, so it closes. I've already tried running in different compatibility modes,

Do you have any idea as to the max resolution that your monitor will support?
You are using an OptiPlex, which is a business machine. Many times those don't have a really spiffy video card.

In your original question you say your max is 1280x1024 and in your second you say it is 1680x1050. The video card drivers are what determine your maximum resolution, not your operating system. If Dell has no drivers that support higher resolutions you'll have to change the video card.

So there you have it. Windows 7 is not yet supported by your video card.
Prolly will be soon.
I would bet that you can get the desired resolution if you were using XP.

I have a dell Optiplex gx260. I bought a nice big Acer 23"monitor 1920x1030 but the max resolution in the graphics properties is 1280x1024 so I get a stretched screen or a poor resolution

jenny_beech

The resolution 1920x1030 is not a standard resolution. Also at the time this computer came out you did not have monitors this big ether. So you most likely will not be able to get 1920x1030 on this computer. However if you install the drivers for the monitor on the computer you should atleast get the right aspect ratio so you have poor resolution. You should have a CD with the drivers on in it. The llink below will show you haw to install them maually in Windows 7 if the drivers are not in an installer. Let me know if you need the steps for Windows XP.

Well i have a dell optiplex gx260 desktop pc for witch i recently installed windows 7.now i have prolem in finding windows 7 audio drivers

Unfortunately, Dell doesn't support Windows 7 for the OptiPlex GX260. You could try an older driver and see if it will work, but you can't get any Windows 7 drivers for the GX260. (At least not yet.)

You can view a list of Dell computers that are Windows 7-compatible here:

Unless you have already maxed out the memory at 2GB and you are using a decent separate video card don't even think about it  - GX260 is an old pc , with limited power.

I want a driver for my dell optiplex gx260 vga i am using a vista operating sestem

As the person above said, that video card will not work with Windows Vista. You are basically left with 2 options:

1. Downgrade the computer to Windows XP, in which the video card will work with

2. Purchase a new video card like this one

Really the choice is yours, but I would downgrade and save the $!

Display drivers for vista

Hi all,
I tried numerous solutions for this issue and none of them worked except this one. I tested it with Vista Ultimate and don’t know if other Vista versions have the same drivers but here’s what worked for me:
1. Right click ‘Computer’ then left click ‘Properties’ to open up System window.
2. Click ‘Device Manager’
3. Click ‘+’ on ‘Display Adapters’ and you should see the drivers for your video. Right click and select ‘Update Driver Software...’
4. Select ‘Browse my computer for driver software’ and click ‘next’.
5. Click ‘Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer’
6. Untick ‘Show compatible hardware’
7. Select ‘Intel Corporation’ then select ‘Intel 82865G’. Click next
This will install the drivers. No they are not the same drivers for the hardware but they work a treat!

Missing Drives for Dell Optiplex GX260 PC Desktop Problem

if you don't have the cd with the drivers and utilities, then you can download the drivers online with another computer. (you will need a thumb drive or cd to save it on) you will also need to make sure you know what brand of ethernet card your computer came with. once you get that ethernet card working, you can get online and download the remaining drivers, possibly through windows update. be sure to select custom update, not express, so it will search for the hardware drivers for you.
