Question about Apple Power Mac G5 Desktop
Someone has broken into my G5 and now my system has stopped responding to my original password. I have tried the gray disk 1 and the reset feature, but that did not work. I got a message that stated that the, SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR (ROOT) did not save the new password. Please let me know how I can correct this. Thank you. I have a powerbook G4 that was running 10.3.9 I tried to upgrade to 10.5 leopard and during the upgrade my computer locked up 2 hrs later I shut the computer down. Now my computer powers up to a login and password but will not except my login or password. The background is the leopard (multi colored outerspace looking). I have tried to start up from the Mac OS X Install CD, by holding down the C key as the computer starts. This does not work....Then I tried holding the apple + s key on power up and that does not work? Can anyone help??? Thanks Jim
The password that you are trying to change is the "root" password, not your account's one... You have to click on the drop-down menu from the reset password utility, and select the good account to change the password

Do you know someone with a USB or Firewire external drive box. If you do, take you drive out of your computer, install it into the box. Your friend may be able to copy/move you data/information to CD/DVDs and then format your disk. There is nothing that can survive a format. After your drive is formatted, create a partition on it and copy your data/info to the partition. Your friend should make sure his antivirus/malware is up to date. He wouldn't want to catch what caught you.
