Where do I find the buffer settings?

I want to check the buffer settings for video on my computer. Where do I find it? My computer suddenly stopped playing excellently and now seems to constantly re-buffer...every 10 seconds or so, sometimes more or less. If checking the buffer is not the answer, what is?

Make sure your desktop is fairly empty of Icons except the bare minimum system icons. Also, make sure there aren't alot of Icons next to the time display at the bottom right of your screen. If there are, close them and then try streaming video.

Buffering of video while watching a stream can normally be down to Three things.
1) Your Broadband Speed is not high enough.
2) The Stream suppliers' servers cannot cope with the load on them. and only send the video in 'lumps' so to speak.
3) Your Device is not able to process the Video fast enough to display correctly.

If , for example you are getting buffering on Youtube video, then it is almost definitely YOUR Broadband speed.

The best way to watch is by downloading the WHOLE video and storing it on your machine so that it will not need to buffer.

You will have to speak to the individual video companies about the ability to download instead of just watching. It is normally a Legal Copyright issue.

Why doe's my videos stop play and buffing can't seem a videos

This is because you have already seen all of the video that is in the computer's memory up to the place it stops. It is waiting for more video to arrive at your computer. It stores a limited time of the movie in advance before it will play it - this stored in the buffer, and 'buffering' is the process of filling that buffer with video. This may occur because your internet connection is slow (do a speed test), because of where you live or there are many people nearby using the internet, or that the transmitting server is slow (e.g., too many people using it, watching videos), or even because your computer is very low on memory.
I would welcome any corrections to what I've written.

I have a Belkin router, and a decent internet connection. However, whenever I try to watch video online (e.g. Youtube, or BBC i-player), the connection is very slow, and seems to stop every few seconds. ...

Wait. Play a little (to start the buffer), then pause the video manually for a few minutes (to allow the buffer to fill).

It ain't the router's fault.

Modern browser-plugin streaming client video players (e.g., Silverlight) need some time with your internet connection to learn your best-available resolution and how much to buffer. After a while, it will improve "all by itself."

After several minutes or so of consistent throughput, some players will upgrade your resolution. You'll see the movie suddenly get sharper.

Another tip: Friday evenings and Saturday nights the traffic is heavy and so the internet is slow. Sunday mornings you'll get better throughput.

New at this show me how to stop buffering please

Unfortunately, it has to buffer in order to play. However, the more powerful your computer, the quicker it will buffer. Increasing the cores on your cpu, adding more ram and a higher end video card would definately speed it up considerably. The speed of your internet connection also plays a part as well as the speed of your hard drive. If the cable connectors are only 3 mbps (megabytes per second) that will slow everything down also. There is a lot to the speed of your computer and video, gaming and surfing the web. Hope this helps

Videa stops and buffers

Sounds like you are trying to stream video--apparently your internet connection is too slow for the speed of the streaming video. You buffer some of the content and your computer starts playing it. Since it is coming into the computer so slowly, your computer plays everything in the buffer and then has to wait for more content.

I just bought my laptop from walmart..i dont know how or if i have set it up properly..but when i play a video like on utube it just plays seconds of it and keeps running like its tryin to load.. what can...

If it is playing Video files offline ok, then it sounds like you are suffering from Buffering.
When your connection speed is not fast enough to download faster than it takes to play it. The video stops or stutters. You can press pause and wait for the buffer to fill before you press play.
You can sometimes adjust the settings to buffer for 30 seconds before playback starts.
The only solution is to get a better internet connection.
Check Speedtest.net and check your connection speed.
If it is no where near what you are paying for, you may want to ring your ISP and complain

your pc sounds really good... unfortunately, it sounds like your internet speed leaves a lot to be desired... or you need to upgrade your video card... if you have another computer and it does the same thing then its your internet speed... if another computer works great then try right clicking on video and adjusting buffer size to infinity and if that doesn't work then you need to upgrade video card...
