TV will not power up

I have a Zenith Z50PX2D that has a problem turning on. It is temperature related in that if the ambient temperature is below 78 degrees the relay engages and release immediately when turned on and the standby light goes off. I had opened up the back to troubleshoot and found when I disconnect the 4 pin connector from the power supply board the relay will stay engaged until I plug the connector back in. I assuming it is not the power supply but some other board problem. Any idea what the problem may be?

These flat panel Tv's, all of them, sometimes have cheap Capacitors in the power supply section. They'll keep tv off and tripping relay circuits. It's not a fault in the power supply ic's, it's a fault in the main Capacitors. The IC thinks there is a leak, so it shuts down tv. It monitors voltages through comparators, and compares them to reference voltages. So check main power Capacitors and replace as needed. A lot of Chinese made Capacitors are cheap. In the big sets, they break down a lot.

I recently had the same problem as well. I called zenith/lg and I bought this model in Jan of 2006. The lady on the phone said they are well aware of the problem. She asked me to have a copy of my receipt faxed over from best buy and then she'll set me up with their repair center. I was barely on the phone with her 10 min. The repair center is coming out next week to fix the tv and all parts/labor are being covered.

SOURCE: zenith plasma

dont get mad like i did, report this problem to zenith, they seem to be aware of the problem with this particular model.
i gave them the model number and they requested the purchase date, then extended the warranty and gave a number for a local repair shop which came for my set a couple days ago.
so far so good. it may be a while until i know whether the repairs will work, however hats off to zenith, so far, which seems to be providing appropriate customer service and standing by their expensive products.

SOURCE: Z50PX2D - I did not have the typical "Popping"

I own the same set. I had the "pop" happen to me. I decided not to fix the set, but before trashing the TV I removed all the boards and parts that I could. This included the Power Supply Board and the Main Board along with the Y Sus, Z Sus, Y Buffers, Speakers, Cooling Fans and few other things I don't know the name of. I'll sell all these parts $150, cheaper than you will find the Power Supply Board by itself. With all these parts you can fix the set cheaply no matter what ends up being the problem. Let me know if you are interested.

Loud pop, then picture turned off but the sound is still working. My TV is a Zenith Z50PX2D

Im hoping you had a spike and blew a fuse. If you feel comfortable checking for a fuse problem check that other wise you might have blown a voltage regulator or a transistor

My Zenith 50 in. tv won't come on, it went out yesterday. When you push the the power button, it flashes green for a few seconds then goes to the red off button.

it's your power supply that has gone. I had the same problem after owning my LG Z50PX2D for 2 months. The repair shop had it for 6 months. now I have the famous "POP & BLACK SCREEN SICKNESS" LG/Zenith should fix this.

Zenith 50" plasma wont turn on

Got the same problem and got a $ 700 quote for a board with a suggestion to replace a related board for a, w/ labor total of $900.
Considering spending the money for the satisfaction, and sending it to the president of Zenith and telling him "where he can do with it" . Never impressed with their products before;this cans it.

Z50px2d

Technician just replaced the upper right (from the back) circuit board that conects to the panel. TV now works fine. I bought the display model 8 months ago with extended Circuit City Warranty for $1000 so I can't complain. This was covered entirly by LG/Zenith (nicest Cust. Svc. ever) so we'll wait and see what happens.

Check your input connections, especially the HDMI (if in use). I have found through personal experience that the weight of the cable and any small vibration can be enough to loosen the connection and leave you a blank screen. The manufacturers would have been smarter to have all the inputs face toward the floor at the bottom of the set (like the power cord). Anyone who has mounted their set to the wall will understand what I am saying.
That being said, you may be better off saving your money and buying a new LCD TV. The Zenith sets have proved to be a ticking bomb. If you Google "pop" and "z50px2d" you will read a number of posts on various boards that indicate that the Zenith plasmas have about a 2 year life expectancy before they are in need of some very expensive service. And frequently even after they are serviced are prone to further failure.
Someone pointed out to me not to long ago a valid fact: LCD technology has been around since the pocket calculator and therefore much less prone to unexpected failure than the relatively new plasma technology. I just wish someone had told me that 2 years ago when I ponied up $3000 for my Zenith z50px2d that blew out a few days ago.
