Mitsubishi WT 46805 ~ Picture gone..... :0(

We have the 46" Mitsubishi WT-46805 - and all of the sudden today the picture is in and out... When we turn it on - the channel information on the top left of the screen is shadowed by multiple colors - and appears rounded. If it does come on with a picture (sometimes) - the picture goes away within a few minutes - but we still have audio... We are military remote... Please advise anyone! Thanks!! my mitsubishi rear projection tv goes out and i can sometimes grab it and pull on the screen and it may work for days or minutes . what can i do

    Do you have a soldering iron, 45 watt, good solder, solder wick, or a friend or coworker that may have these items. If so then let me know and I will try to help. I will have to caution you on opening the back of any television.

    I am not sure, but is appears by your post that you have an intermittent problem with your set. If the colors are off sometimes and not others, you may just have some intermittent solder connections in the convergence IC's.

There are two and sometimes three very large IC’s that control the convergence in a big screen set. I think that you have two that are on the board in the center of the set. They are secured to a very large aluminum heat sink.

There are two ways to repair intermittent connections on the convergence IC’s. I usually remove the board with the convergence IC’s on them and then and solder the connections. The other method is to tilt the circuit board and solder them while still installed in the chassis.

If you remove the board and repair the connections, be careful to remember which connections need to be made when you replace the board. Mitsubishi uses a lettering system, so it should be easy.

If the problem remains after you have made the repair, it is possible that the pins on the IC’s have become loose. In this case the IC’s need to be replaced. I have seen this on several occasions.

If you choose to repair the set yourself, be very careful of the high voltage that can be stored in the capacitors, and CRT’s. This voltage can be as high as 30,000 volts.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

    You have no video going to the CRT's the faint light is fine those are the heaters. I am not sure how much I can help you via this post, with a step by step troubleshooting procedure. I would repair the convergence IC's or at least have a look at them and then go from there.

    Were you able to locate the convergence IC's?

    You may not be able to see the ring cracks in the connections. Sometimes you will see them if the soldering iron heats them up they will become evident. Where you able to get the set repaired?

    Please update your feedback, I can't understand why you would rate this comment when you haven't got a repair. These posts and the response is all that I and others work for. I believe that I have been more that helpful.

Mits 46805 - Replaced IC's now picture is dim!

Good Day, Nickb2b;

The IC's you installed will not cause a dark/dim picture......but I would like you to check two things:

1. Make sure you put all cables that you may have unplugged into their proper positions, the cables are marked with numbers, ensure all cables are properly seated,

2. Look for fluid on the PCB's.

Good Luck, big IRISH.

Mitsubishi WT 46805 ~ Picture gone..... :0(

Good Day, Corri;

It sounds like the TV has a Circuit problem in the convergence circuit. If it comes and goes then the concern can be corrected by re-soldering the 'conv' output IC"s. A semi-minor repair and cost.

Good Luck, big IRISH.
