It will run until I squeeze the handle to use it i have the same problem. it is a homelite that is about 3 years old. it will start but when i pull the trigger it dies. i also can't put it wide open on the choke or it dies.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

This can also be (just did this too with my Zip Start):
1. Nasty Carb (loose screws or just funky)
2. Leaks (be they Air or Fuel Gaskets!)
3. Funky Exhaust Port
4. Fuel (check it ALL, lines, filter, tank)
5. Fuel CAP (believe it or not, they ARE vented for a reason, to PREVENT Vapor Lock)
6. The Spark Plug (if it is weak, she will act like that on the High Side, sometimes, even when Idling nicely! Double check your Plug Seat as well, where the Plug meets the Cylinder Head, if it is funky bad, clean it up, a good ground is a must!)
Remember that on a 2-Stroke, Spark Plugs take a hell of a beating on heat, or getting over-fueled (which they do, when carbs are unmaintained). And UNLIKE 4-Strokes....they have to burn OIL too! (Foul faster)
Fuel -> Fuel Filter-> Fuel Line-> Carb->
Splits here into TWO paths:
1. Fuel Bulb-> Fuel Line (Return Line)-> Fuel Tank
2. Fuel Bulb-> Carb-> Intake Port-> Piston-> Exhaust Port-> Exhaust Port Screen
Magneto-> Rotor Magnets (for Spark Plug, AKA- Ignition)->Spark Plug Wire->Spark Plug->Cylinder Head
Kill Switch (grounds all the above to the cylinder)
Running: (Carb, etc.)
Throttle Cable (super simple)
Carb Seats, Carb Gaskets (air leaks/fuel leaks)
Needle Seat (Fuel Flow, Gummed UP!)
Any and ALL Fuel/Air Ports in the Carb.
Fixes: CLEAN THE CARB. I don't mean spray some WD-40 on it and call it "clean". Tear it ALL the way down (CAREFULLY!), and put her back together. Use some compressed air and Gum-Out.
NOTE: "Gasket Kits" are NOT a fix EXCEPT for leaky GASKETS!
They do NOT fix 99% of the problems: Spark Plug or Dirty Carb!
They will NOT fix "Operator Error" either!
NOTE: If it requires fuel (or a mix), it will invariably get gummed up, and nasty. Carbs are about the #1 reason ANY small engine fails, and ONLY second to people who will....not....maintain...equipment.
NOTE on Carbs: If it worked brand new without an adjusted carb (factory settings), it does NOT need adjusted now. What it needs to be is CLEANED, and put back into service. E.G.- MAINTAINED!
