yes that wide gray band. inverter is power supply of your CCFL backlight of your LCD which convert dc to ac high voltage output. no output voltage causing black screen.

Black screen on laptop

When it is in that state, try hooking it up to an external display. Also look for a extremely faint image on the screen. If it's really faint you have a bad back light, if you see nothing but you get a display on an external monitor it's probably the display going bad.

Laptop screen is blank white gateway

I was say you will need to replace the screen. To confirm everything else is working hook an external monitor to the vga. You may need to press the FN key + one of the F# keys that may have an icon of a monitor to toggle the display to the external display. If everything works this way then replace the screen. You can usually find a cheap replacement screen on ebay.

Latitude B130 screen works great then cuts out to complete black, works with external monitor

Are you sure that the display is not set for external monitor only? Also take bright flashlight and shine on the display. If you can see the images then the problem is with the back light and usually caused by a bad inverter. Some times you can get the back light or inverter bu most times it is easier and cheaper to replace the entire display.

My screen stays black when i turn my computer on, its a mac laptop and everything sounds like its running fine, the screen just wont come on.

Try hooking it up to an external monitor. If does work on the monitor you know you have to replace the screen. I don't see a model of what type of mac laptop you have, but most parts are pretty easy to replace and cheap to buy on auction sites.

Laptop screen is black

i suspected your laptop screen is faulty because there's no problem when you connect it on external monitor. you might need to replace it. if it is under warranty there's no need to pay for the part.

Acer Aspire One Screen Wont Work!!

try hooking it up to an external monitor using a VGA cable. If you see something on the external monitor, then it's the screen that's bad, if you still see nothing, then it's more than likely the video card.

Hello jarkk, I believe your problem is with your backlight inverter. the hard drive should be installed for this process of checking it on an external monitor. with the hard drive removed it will not boot to the operating system. with the drive in, use the external monitor. if the monitor works when plugged into the external monitor plug, this will eliminate a bad video card. if the screen is still black on the laptop screen, replace your backlight inverter. the last case cenario is to make sure your backlights are not burnt out.

Monitor is blank!!!!

Firstly, the LCD+external setting will switch one or the other or both on.

Secondly, if you go into your display properties (or even the advanced page where your video card additional features are) you can usually select which monitor is "primary".

I suspect that your external display is primary, and the LCD screen is not "enabled" or used as part of the desktop.

The settings are all there, it's just a matter of finding them (depending on what video card is in whatever laptop you have)

This might have happened in the first place if you accidentally hit "Fn" and one of the "F" keys up the top. Fn + F6 on my laptop will switch LCD/external monitors on and off. (for example) There is usually a little blue picture on one of the "F" keys to denote that function.
