How do I fix the pushed in power button? Is there a Gateway replacement part for that top panel strip, is there a take apart manual somewhere I can access? Do you know how to fix this particular problem?

Power switch is pressed and then a circuit operates in similar way as RELAY works.

But due to internal brush or transistor failures this can't retain its proper power and hence you computer doesn't look working good.

So please change it and its very cheap also...

My computer will load up until it gets to the welcome screen. I can move my cursor around but computer stays on that welcome screen.

Hi justusd055,

If your system just stays on the welcome screen it might caused by missing or deleted OS files. There are several ways to check this particular issue either by using the system restore or using your recovery disc. Please try to follow the steps below to diagnose if this is a software or hardware problem.

1. Turn off the computer.

2. Go to the safemode.
--> boot up your computer, the moment you pressed the power button go ahead and tap the F8 key continiuosly. ( Just keep on tapping it until you see the windows advanced option menu).

3. Now select safemode.
-->to select safemode, use the arrow key to select it then press the enter key.

4. Go to system restore.
--> click on the start menu, all programs, select accessories folder , system tools, then click on system restore.

5. Then select restore point.
--> select the date wherein you were able to use the computer properly.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

My gateway MX6927 freezes

If you can't get run the recovery cd's and you know the cd drive is good then it has to be the hard drive causing the lockups cause that means data isn't able to be copied over to it.

Gateway nv52 won't turn on

I also had this problem. I turned it off and it would not turn on. I found the solution. First, extend the laptop screen as far back as it will go. Don't just stop the screen at a ninety degree angle. My laptop screen pulls back to about 135 degrees. Now press the power button. It should start up.

Why do I think this works? Well...I used to own an older model thinkpad that had a short "male" connector on the screen, that when the screen was folded down would enter into a "female" connector on the base of the unit and trigger sleep mode on the unit. This is how the system could automatically hibernate when the screen was closed. The little male connector broke off, and I couldn't get the system to wake up, because the connection to tell the laptop that I had the screen up or down no longer worked. I couldn't even power it up. I had to take an ink pen and push the connector through the female end to indicate to the motherboard that I'd opened the screen before it would even turn on.

It appears that the same type of mechanism is built into the long BAR under the screen of the NV52 and somehow it can't determine when the screen is open or closed. If it detects that the screen has not been opened, it won't power up. This safeguard prevents the laptop from being turned on mistakenly while closed up in your laptop bag. Extending the screen back resets the mechanism and it should turn on. Sorry for the long explanation...

My gateway laptop will not turn on when you push power button.

If you power it on and get the light it means either two things:

1. It needs a minimal charge on the battery to power. ( havent seen this since the old Compaq/Apple stuff ) or

2. The motherboard is fried. ( Just diagnosed a HPDV6000r special edition with this beautiful computer, dead motherboard ).

What is the warranty like:

NOTE TO ALL STUDENTS: Buy New laptops in November, so the warranty comes up in October, after you know you need more computer or repairs!

Gateway MX6927 Windows Xp won't boot

put your xp disk in the optical drive.Turn off computer. Turn computer back on as soon as you turn it on start tapping f 12 constantly.it should go the boot menu giving you a choice of booting from cd or hard drive choose boot from cd.Be sure you choose repair rather than new installation or you could loose all your information stored on the hard drive,I personally would try safe mode first you can get to safe mode by tapping f 6 when you first turn on your computer.

Lgateway laptop won't power on

Your computer works fine. Its just a little plastic tab that has broken off of the power button. Bad design! The power button doesn't sit right about the power switch. The broken tab makes the switch. The button is directly about the LED light. You have to remove the power button panel (Your user manual will instruct you on that) and then you can rig something where the plast tab was or just remove the circuit board from the panel and just power it on with your finger on the circuit board. No risk of shock. Well it hasn't gotten me yet :o) There's only two screws that you have to remove from the back of the computer to remove the panel and keep in mind that the top hinge covers are part of the power button panel so you have to gently loosen those with a little screw driver as well.
