Before you start it up:
1. Disconnect the high pressure hose 2. Connect the water supply and turn on 3. Make sure water is flowing through the pump
Start the motor, run for about 10 seconds and then turn off.
Turn off the water supply, connect the high pressure hose, turn water back on, start the motor and away you go.

Pressure surges up and down?

You need to expel all of the air that has ran through the supply hose and into the pump. Do this without the machine running. Squeeze the trigger and let the water run through the machine for 30 seconds or until all the air has bled through. You can the turn the machine on.
Cheers Ziggy.

My karcher pressure washers motor revs up and down when being used and loses pressure. can you tell me the cause of this problem and how easy it is to fix and what the cost would be please?

Hello, W/D here.
It sounds like there is air in the machine, causing the over revving and loss of pressure. When the revving decreases, it's because some of the air has passed, and the washer is then trying to pump water, only to have more air get into the pump. As the machine over revs, it heats up, making it actually harder to get the air out. The easy way to prevent this is to turn the water on at the faucet, and leave the trigger on the gun held down (open). Then, make sure that no air is trapped in the hose to the pressure washer. You can lift up on the hose and walk the hose from the faucet to the machine, forcing any air in the hose towards the washer. Then, allow enough time for the air that you have displaced to travel through the washer. You will be able to judge your progress by observing the end of the spray wand. This process will take you a few minutes, but will result in your washer running and performing better.
Best regards, --W/D--

Karcher 395M keeps shutting off. Sometimes we can use it by continually messing around with it and plugging and unplugging it until it starts......usually. Is this the cord?

Sometimes this washer shuts off due to a wrongg pressure specially if there is air gaps inthe system. Allow the water to flow thorough without the power switch on and once youhave confirmed a free air lock , power the set.
Now if you wriggle the ccord and the washer fails thenit can be the power cord other wise the problem can be within the motor.

I purchased a reconditioned Karcher 4000 and upon first use, the spray surges. It will go down to almost nothing then back up to full blast in about 5 second increments. Any advice?

Bleed the system by running water without the unit on, You have an air lock, open the drain cocks and allow water to run slowly for 2 minutes, then close everything and try it

I have had 3 Karcher pressure washers all experience the same problem and so have two of my neighbors. Our area has very hard water and it causes problems with the washer not bringing up the pressure when...

If your water is that hard (and it appears it is) WD40 will NOT solve the problem. You should look into a water softener. However, chances are that a small, inexpensive model will not have the flow capacity required for a pressure washer. You'll likely need to look at a larger, whole-house model.

Use vinegar to through the machine's "soap" dispenser to break up the hard water deposits or a heavier solvent such as CLR which is available at most retail outlets.

The motor keeps surging

If there's a lot of sediment in your water supply, there's a chance that sediment has gummed up the pressure switches. I'm assuming it has a full power switch and high power switch. It runs on full power until a pressure switch is satisfied, and runs on low power to slowly build the pressure back up, at which a second switch is satisfied from the pressure and turns the motor off. These things are not easy to work on, and are made of metal probably too fragile to try any chemicals. You should probably contact the manufacturer.

Karcher G 3000 BH Engine Pumping Problem

This may not be a motor problem. It sounds like your pump is not working properly and the motor is just following the pump. First thing to do is check for leaks in the pump, wand hose, gun etc. It may also be a blown water seal inside the pump.

Pressure surge on and off for 2 seconds w/ new Karcher

It can be one of three conditions,
  1. The water supply in is not sufficient
  2. The pump oil is low
  3. The seals are bad in the pump.
I would check the first one first as this is the most common problem.
The water supply hose should be a high volume hose of at least 1/2 inch but 5/8 inch or greater is best.
