Question about Fuji FinePix S5000 Digital Camera

CCD on Fuji S5000

Can't focus as it's all blurry. So, I took the camera to a camera shop. They said for them to fix it, it would be sent out, may take quite a while and be costly. They said it would be cheaper to buy another camera. They said there was a recall on faulty CCD's, by Fuji. So, I called them because I never got a recall notice. Fuji claims there was no such recall. I really love this camera and miss using it. What should I do? Do you know where I can send this for quick and reasonably priced repair?

Hi I am Vortash .. Fuji are notorius for their call backs they annonce them in two or three major cities or a particular country then expcect everyone to know about it .. they have followed the laws on recall but only as much as they have to and they will not admit it ever .. So to your camera I am afraid you are in the dark area of neverland with this one .. most companies have a fee just for opening up a camera as it takes so long to get to the offending parts and that is before any work is done then the cost of parts then the labour . Unfortunatley again it is not a job most people will tackle let alone accomplish as special tools and equipment are needed .
I think it depends on how much you like the camera or if a new camera is not the best option considering that the cost of replacementwill probably be the same as repair or as close to it as Dam it is to swearing ?. you advice was probably correct .. If you liked that particular one so much why not look for a cheap seconhand one off Amazon or Ebay.. Hope this is of help to you regards Vortash

Camera won't focus when using optical zoom

I had same problem. Found that doing a complete reset fixed it. Go into setup and at end there is a factory reset. If not working after that would suspect your ccd sensor is on way out. They should last 5-7 yrs. Be cheaper to get another cam with way prices have come down

Your CCD sensor has failed. Common digital problem that uses Sony sourced CCD chips. Proffesional factory replacement of CCD is only fix or buy another physicaly damaged unit and swap CCD boards. Not hard but intricate and time consuming.

Motherboard is dead, and it costs much to take it to the repair shop. It doesn't pay off, for that amount of money you can buy a better camera. I'm trying to find a web shop and to check the price, so i could repair it myself, but had no luck finding it so far. Anyone?

Send it to the Fujifilm camera repair center. The S5000 has a known issue with bad CCD sensors... Unless you want to do it yourself.

Yes, there was a "recall".
Although the wording "recall" is not correct; they offered a free ccd replacement for the affected cameras.
The customer had to initiate the process.
Please do a bit of research on Google and you will find it.
Also have a look at www.s5000.net

Unfortunately you received the "Standard Answer" from Fuji.

Fuji FinePix S5000 - Display has turned pink!

4/8/08 FOR ALL CCD SENSOR'S MFG by Sony: Found the answer. Sony Repair service is fixing for free any CCD sensor problems on "any" camera that had a "Sony Manufactured CCD sensor". I have now called the service center and they sent me a UPS Return label so I can send my camera in for "free" repair. This is good news!!! I can't remember the site I was on but they listed all brands that had the Sony mfg. CCD sensors in them. So call the Sony Repair Center to find out if your camera has the Sony CCD sensor in it. This was an error in the manufacturing process and they are standing good for this.

Focus Problems

If the problem is caused by damage to the lens unit ( the usual problem because auto focus mechanism is electronically / mechanically very robust ) then you have to have the lens unit replaced and this might be uneconomical : most expensive component in the camera is the lens assy. plus it is supplied with CCD sensor block; all in all this is an expensive part.
