I just get a black screen when i turn on my ps3 system

When i turn on my system it just show a black screen. I have exactly the same problem. Turn on the system, tv goes from its blue screen to the PS3s black screen. nothing more. no other grafix just a flat black screen. I am not getting any sound or anything like that either. the system is almost 6 months old and is not really used very heavily.

    Well I kept looking last night after I posted and found the same instructions that benwabnick gave above. They worked but it took me about 30 trys doin it for it to work right...

    Power on PS3 via power button and HOLD IT for 5 seconds (release after
    the second beep). It should automatically configure your PS3 to the
    TV's native resolution for all settings.

  • Make sure the system is off.
  • Hold down the Power Button for 5-6 seconds - until you hear the second beep.
  • That's it, your video settings are reset and you should be able to choose your input and configure it from there.

Screen goes black
sounds like you're using an HDMI cable, and the cable is broken. That's exactly what happens when HDMI cables break, a few of those 0s and 1s don't make it to the TV every once and a while, and the TV goes black and the audio dies.

go to system update and choose online update. an optional ps3 firmware 3.01 fixes this issue

also, I had a similar situation a while back. Anytime I loaded any disk (game or movie) it would just go black and freeze. I had to do a system reset (where it reloads everything and you lose your data). You can back everything up before that and restore it once you are done. It has worked fine for nearly a year since then.

A problem has occurred the last time the ps3 system was last used, and the system did not turn off correctly. after that thing pops up after i turn it on i press yes send to ps3 place and then it sends in...
Try a video reset first.

While the PS3 is off (red led)

Hold down the power button until you hear the second beep, quickly release.

Let me know if that solves your problem otherwise it's a corrupt file system.

PS3 can turn on, but T.V screen is black
turn power switch on in the back. red light on in the front, hold the power button until system turns back off. this resets all hardware settings. if this doesn't work and the system is ok (green light) then you have a connection problem to the tv

PS3 will play on AV but will not in HDMI
  1. Connect via AV and turn on the system.
  2. Go to Setting and then Display setting
  3. Select the connector type on your TV.
  4. After you selected connector your TV screen may go staid black. Try to hook your HD cable while the system is still on. (This step should be done in 30 sec. If not, will go back to previous screen)
  5. Your TV Screen should be on via HD cable

Ps3 all black when i turn it on
ok a long shot but i did read somewere that if u hold down the power button for 10 seconds it detects or calibrates to the current TV that is connected its worth a try if nothing else, if this didnt help sorry but if it did enjoy :)

P.S. i dont know if the console needs to already be running to do this.

No ps3 screen
To assign the contollers, you need to plug them direcly into the PS3 for a minute, then unplug and restart. (You only need to do this once, but sometimes every so often)

Make sure your TV is set to the correct input method for the PS3 to show up on the screen. Ex. HDMI

Try getting a new AV Option, well actually first startup your PS3, startup your controller, and hit the center PS3 button, because those 2 options are only in the Main PS3 Option, which is accesed and closed through hitting the middle button on your controller. Hope this helped.
