Question about E-Machines M5105 Notebook

Emachine M5105 that won't boot up.

Have an emachine M5105 that won't boot up. ... would make sense because the cooling fan on the motherboard does come on when I turn it on. ... I got the BSOD and when restarting the laptop, it says it can't find the boot device. There is no CD in the CD-ROM drive. When I press F3 on startup the BIOS startup says there is no Primary drive IDE (the hard drive). Is the hard drive dead?

I suspected the IDE cable is not properly connected to your hard disk. Check connections and boot up machine normally.

Why my e-machine t4010 shuttes off by itself

Overheating When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are clogged with dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed air to do this.

When i push the power button on my emachine the e screen flashes and it wont turn on what do i do to fix this?

If you just did a memory upgrade then the new chip is either not seated properly or the wrong type or even bad. Since it won't boot the problem is the ram in memory slot one. You need to rock it a bit to make sure it is seated before snapping it in. If it is the wrong speed or type you need to exchange it. It can also be bad but that usually means a counterfeit these days or you gave it a static shock and burned it out..

If you put your old ram back in you should be able to work again until you get the ram replaced.

I am not hearing the fans on this computer and i notice it heats up very quickly

With the computer turned off unseat and reseat the fan connectors back to the motherboard. If the fans are still not turning on then try some other new fans. If new ones won't turn on then you know for sure at that point the motherboard is going bad because its not putting out a high enough voltage to turn the fans on.

Cannot shut off & no display

The eMachines M5105 is notorious for failing to boot if left unplugged and powered off long enough for the battery to become mostly discharged. Plugging it in to AC power will cause the battery to start charging; and the hard disk drive to spin while the CPU cooling fan cycles on and off vigorously. THE UNIT WILL NOT BOOT UNTIL THE BATTERY IS NEAR FULLY CHARGED; then THE AC DISCONNECTED; and then THE (charged) BATTERY REMOVED AND RE-INSTALLED! Most units will boot after following the foregoing procedure.
