Question about Televison & Video

2 Answers

My 52" rear projection tv "gallery" model PF-52A70, was working perfectly till last week. I turned it off to have dinner and now it won't switch on, It turned on once and thats it. it does the usual thing with the red light on the front which dims to fire up, but it goes back to standby. It sounds like a capacitor is not switching in, I looked inside and there is no visible component damage. You can hear the tubes start to warm up then it turns off and makes the usual static sound. can you help, thanks Pat.

the television is work fine at the moment, I think the fault is the start up capacitors (2 small black). I removed the board again and moved the 2 capacitors and it seems to work fine, you can also blow hot air on these to test them or cool them to isolate the problem, that is what I've done to solve my fault.

Its the problem of power supply board failure.many users are facing  the same problem.as nothing seems to be burnt on the board as capacitors looks fine.the board gets internal short circuit in the tracks and this happens.the red light on the front dims to fire up but nothing happens. you can get the new board at  www.partstore.com thanks.keep updated.

Hello Pat

This sounds like either the lamp has blown and needs to be replaced, or the thermal fuse has failed and needs replacing. Best to get them checked in that order. It may be safer to allow a TV technician to do the replacements just in case there are high currents inside.

Hope this is of some help and that you get your TV working again soon!

Best regards

If total dead (no lights on blinking etc) follow power cord into the set and find and check the main fuse--in this set it usually is a glass 5 amp fuse.

Does the RCA TV model D52W20 have a digital tuner? or will I need a cable box to watch TV? At our location they just switched the signal. we just had a tube TV with the cable line in the back and up till...

Greetings Pete - No, your display is what is called HDTV ready, meaning it needs a separate tuner AKA set top box.

You need to get the cable box, plug in the component video cables into your TV (usually provided) and plug in audio cables and you're viewing HDTV. See below:

I own a 52 inch rca projection tv and last week

Most likely the Horizontal output transistor has shorted. When it shorts it causes the power supply to chirp. This is a common problem with this series of TV. Have a shop check it out. It should not be real expensive.
