The graphics card takes its own power from the motherboard.

Have a emachines model t3646 with a winfast n15235 motherboard. The video is not working. I tried to install a geforce8400 gs pci-e video card. This did not come up with as vga or hdmi. any ideas?

IF there is power to the motherboard and the machine's power button doesn't light up, then you maybe need to replace the motherboard. IF it does light up, then maybe try another different video card (as in a regular PCI board --older style--).

I own eMachine Notebook e525 and it won't read any disks. I have tried multiple disks such as music cds, installation cds and video dvds. None of them read or open. There isn't even an icon for the...

> there is no icon for the CD-drive

Probably means that either:
* no electrical power is reaching the CD-ROM drive
* no "data" is being transferred to/from the drive
* the electronics inside the CD-ROM drive have "died"

Check the "power" and "data" connectors.

If necessary, replace the drive with a new CD/DVD reader/writer.

Even if those things power up doesn't mean your PSU is still good.
In particular the PSU in eMachines are known to be cheap/bad and one of the first things to go out.

If you have access to one try another ATX power supply.
You don't have to remove the old one just to test.

1) Unplug the existing PSU power cable from the back.
2) Remove all it's connections (MB, drives, etc).
3) Plug the other PSU in with just the two MB connections (the main, and 12v one), skipping any drives for now.
It's probably ok if the test one is not touching, but I like to put the PC on the side with the test PSU setting on top where the original one is making sure it has good contact with the case to make sure it's grounded.
4) Now plug the AC into the test PSU and power it up.

If it still dosn't power up it's probably MB, or CPU.
You could also unplug it again (you always want to unplug the PSU when doing anything, the power is always on), and try removing any add on cards (like your wireless card), and try again.

If it does power up (you get a POST screen), unplug PSU again, now plug-in drives, then AC back and see if it will boot up.

No picture on EMACHINE T3120, COULD THIS BE CAUSED FROM AN ISSUE WITH THE POWER SUPPLY?

Not likely, if it powers up and the LED blinks indicating that the hard drive is working then its most likely the video card or the motherboard.

If you press power and you hear the fan and hard drive power up the power supply is working if none of that happens then you know that the power supply is done they are cheap $40 at newegg.

If you get a picture at first but then it goes black it could be a driver that is not compatible. If so you will have to go into "safe mode" and see what isn't loading correctly.

Had a similar issue with a computer swapped out the video card and the power supply, wasn't worth putting money into a new motherboard.

Just for fun make sure none of the pins are bent on the connectors

I hope these are the plugs you are referring to. Most motherboards are the same when it comes to this sort of thing.

To which of the pins do you connect the power switch from the front of the eMachines T2890 to the motherboard, along with the HDD indicator, etc.?

On the mother board, there are pin's as you know, around the pin's there are very little word's some are abbreviated. That should label where, also some pins in the plug have a pattern make sure the pattern matches on the motherboard as well.

If you remove all the RAM fro the system and power it on, you should hear "Memory Error Beeps" if not, then it is usually Motherboard or CPU, for around $30.00 you can purchase a PCI POST code reader to try to pin the problem down further.
I am assuming from the post that all PCI cards (dial up modem especially) have been removed. Sounds like a bad MB or CPU, but if the video is integrated,( built on the motherboard, and not a seperate card, the memory is responsible for video also, and it maybe defective.
