does it effect the tv in any way by turning off from the plug

    thanks in advance

  • theresas28 May 29, 2009

does it cause any problems with the tv, if it is turned off from the wall everynight. I was told that the tv needs to be plugged in all the time. My old analogue tv was always turned off from the wall and I never had any problems. I'm a bit concerned with the lcd being turned off every night from the wall. the tv doesn't have a button to completely turn off the set it only remains on standby. if you could let me know that would be great. thanks in advance.

I have a Sony Bravia LCD tv an it won't turn on at all the standby light is not even there I've tried turning on an off and leaving unplugged for an hour still nothing.? Help,

You either have a problem with your power supply board or main board. I would start with having the power supply fuse checked as well as the power supply board!

I don't have a prob, but when I purchased my tv I was told to leave it on standby at night. Is this safe? Also, does it use much energy? I look forward to your reply. D Maynes

It is generally safe and it does use energy. As to how much energy, you should use a Kill-a-Watt meter to measure it. It should only use a fraction of the energy as when it is actually on. Leaving it on standby (as opposed to unplugging it) makes the usage experience better (it comes on faster). Some TVs loose their stored memory (e.g. last channel, skipped channel, input labels, etc.) when you unplug them for a significant period of time. If your TV retains memory AND does not automatically go into a setup mode upon plugging it in, then it is OK to unplug it when not in use.

How do you turn off light at bottom of TV under Samsung name?

Hi I am Vortash that is the standby light and the only way to turn it out is to turn the set off at the wall ? This is the safest thing to do at night in any case Televisions are responsible for more fires in the home than almost anything else .
Here in the United Kingdom there was even a Public announcement film made just to tell people to unplug them at night made by the Fire safety council ... regards Vortash
