Question about Dell PowerEdge 2300 Server

Dell PowerEdge 2300 - Monitor, keyboard and mouse will not respond

I have a Dell Poweredge 2300 and it's been off and unplugged for a while, around a month maybe, can't remember. Anyway, when I turn it on, the monitor acts like nothing happened and no lights come on the keyboard. The server turns off and on just fine, but whenever I turn it on everything just sits there. I've had this happen a couple of times with this server and usually I have to leave it on for a couple of days before it starts to work again, but this time I've had it on for about 4 days now. Is this normal with these servers, or any other server, and is there anything I can do to get it to work? Hello, I have the same issue as the original poster. I have replaced the motherboard to no avail. How do I go about establishing the appropriate replacement part (number) for a new video card/controller? Thanks Owain

It sounds like the power supply is failing.

Failing power supplies will sometimes deliver just enough power to make the fans spin but not enough for the motherboard and drives to start.

I hope this helps.

How do i network it to my other tower

The easiest way is use a KVM switch. It is not networking, but they are handy just for that reason. They it allows you to use 1 keyboard, 1 monitor, and 1 mouse for 2 or more machines.

Look for something like this.

Installing Dell PowerEdge R710 DVR Server

  1. VIA a serial cable (looks like monitor cable is not). You have use something like telnet. Old school and very technical.
  2. Just connect a monitor, keyboard, and mouse and treat like a regular PC. Can't go wrong.

We have a Dell Poweredge 4400 & a Dell Poweredge 2300. Both have amber lights blinking - hard-disk failure indicators. They are using RAID. What do I need to do?

Go into the RAID setup during bootup (not always in the BIOS), but will post somewhere on startup (should say SCSI/SAS Controller card press CTRL + M to enter setup) or similar.

When in the raid setup check to see the status of the drive(s).

Was the machine running and it's just happened etc or are these machines you have obtained and are plain not working?

Dell PowerEdege 1600SC not recognizing IO devices

Just go into the bios and insert the correct parameters. you shut it off before it could save the settings. Or hit fi on boot and it should take you into the bios and you cand sort it out in there. If you want an easy way, just do a system restore. Start,Programs, accesorys, system tools, system restore, just go back a day or two before you had that issue, and you should be good to go, good luck

Servers usually don't come with sound cards. If you really need one, you must install one. If it is truly a server, I would recommend against it.

Monitor and keyboard will not respond

It only happens with your keyboard and mouse? or does it include your monitor too? if it does include you monitor then it is the video card. It is built in to your system and is causing the problem. I got the same issue before. My mouse doesn't work, keyboard won't respond, monitor is blank. I know its the video card. It is not typical for a server to respond that way but you need to replace the system or replace the video card...
