How to unlock Samsonite 3-number lock? Any pictures?

I have followed the solution given but still didn't work. Anyone has pictures showing exactly how to do it? -- because which one is the shaft, where is the square notch? Saw what I think its an indentation but can't see anything inside the hole that has a spring. Thought I saw what might be the square notch indicated any did all the number addition/deduction but still do not work. Help. 3 number lock is locked with case open, but do not have combination.

SOURCE: I HAVE THE TSA COMBINATION LOCK ON A SAMSONITE GRAVITON G LUX

I can't answer the problem - but am interested as we had an identical failure on holiday in South Africa. We had to force the case open as the lock and the mechanism seemed to have come adrift in that when moving the lever with the correct combination - the case neither opened or closed. I'm sending it back to Samsonite under warranty to hopefully get it repaired/replaced. I rang the UK number listed on the Samsonite website. Bit disappointed as Samsonite should be more reliable - particularly given the price of the case, at £295, isn't exactly cheap.

SOURCE: I do not know the combination of my samsonite hard case suitcase

I tried working through the series of possible numbers and at the same time gently pressing the lower part of the lock to see if it would open. After a while I used a claw hammer which I gently inserted the claw beneath the lower portion of the lock and again gently prised it and at first go the lock opened and no damage done that I can see. I have not reset the lock yet.

How do I reset the combination lock on my Samsonite suitcase. I have it open but do not remember old numbers for lock. I need to reset it so I can use the suitcase.

Email from Samsonite in response to my plea for help:
Dear Sir/Madam:
The following are the lock picking instructions you requested from Samsonite Consumer Relations.
1. Position the luggage so that the numbers on the wheel are
right-side-up as they face you and set all three wheels to “0′.
2. Starting with the wheel on the left, to the right of the wheel,
look into the narrow space between the right side of the wheel and
the body of the lock. Look down into the shaft. (If you have a
safety pin, straight pin, or thin nail file, place that in the
narrow space.)
3. While looking down into the shaft, rotate the wheel slowly. You
are looking for an indentation (a square notch). When you find
the indentation, stop and write the number down. (If you are using
a tool, the tool will fall into the indentation.)
4. Follow the process for the remaining two wheels.
5. Try to open the piece of luggage.
6. If the luggage still will not open, please try the following:
a) If the number on the wheel is over 5, subtract 5 from the
number showing. For example, if the number showing is 8 turn
the wheel to 3 because 8-5=3.
b) If the number is under 5, add 5 to the number showing. For
example if the number showing is 2 turn the wheel to 7
because 2+5=7. The numbers showing on the wheels will be
your combination.

What follows are Samsonite's own instructions. Note that they don't work on the new Samsonite CURV though, but you didn't say which case you have:-

Please note that I've simply cut and pasted this answer from an identical question from a few days ago, but it did resolve the question and there's no point in me re-inventing the wheel. If you want to see the original question and answer then please click here.

TSA locked our TSA002 lock on our samsonite bag when they inspected it. We do not have a key. TSA said we needed to go back to the airport, but is there a way to get a key?

No. That's part of the whole purpose of TSA passkeys; they're held securely and only at ports. If it were easy for anyone else to get hold of them the locks which are TSA approved would become pointless.

You only have three options if you do not want to return to the airport:-

1. Get a locksmith;

2. Cut the lock off/drill it out;

3. If your lock is usually key operated (not a combination) then there will be a number next to the lock barrel (not the TSA number, that just tells the TSA which of their passkeys to use). A Samsonite dealer can order the correct key for you using the number and some even keep them in stock.
