Question about HP LaserJet 2300N Printer

My jetdirect printers keep stoping printing during the day?

It seems like everyone is printing fine on there network printers in the morning but during the day they can't seem to print. They all have static addresses. Sometimes shutting the printers off and rebooting them back up fixes this temporary. They are all using external jetdirect cards.

    There is a switch they all run back to. Something is maybe putting all the printers in some sort of sleep mode. Could that be possible? Thanks

    The sleep mode is set directly on the printers so I wouldn't think it would be that. I'm wondering if the switch is going bad. Can you swap that out and see if it changes anything. I have a customer who had something similar...large multi printer user. Turned out someones PC had a virus that affected the printers. Its a hospital...with firewalls etc...but still somehow got thru. Users of affected printers could turn it off and on and it would work again.

    I don't want to blame it on a virus...thats the easy way out...lol, but I'm willing to bet it sure isn't the printers themselves. I'd start with that switch.

    Wow!..thats a weird one! I'd rule out the printers as being a problem. And that many external jet directs wouldn''t go bad all at the same time. I think you have to look from the jet directs back to the server for the solution. Whats in between jet directs and the server? any routers, switches etc?

I would try removing both the jetdirect card and the formatter board and reseat both. Sounds like you just have a bad connection to one of those and removing and replacing them a couple of times will clean the contact and resolve that issue.

You can purchase a jetdirect network card from Ebay. Any model will work, a 610 should not be too expensive these days. Or you can purchase a USB network print server and connect the printer to the USB port on the printer and then connect the print server to your network.

Out laser 2300 printer has ready, data and attention lights flashing and we cannot get anything to prine- we have tried cold reset and other suggestions and nothing seems to correct our problem- any...


All three lights flashing indicates a general failure. this is caused by either a bad connection, a bad formatter or a bad engine control board. Disconnect any cables you have attached to the printer and restart. If it starts fine then you may have a bad cable. If this is a networked printer, then it is quite possible that the network card has failed. You can try removing the network card if it has one and restarting. The JetDirect 615N card that shipped with this series of printers is notorious for failures.

We believe the problem with our LaserJet 5000 GN is the JetDirect 610N network connection on the back. It prints its own internal documents just fine, so we know it's not that. And the network itself seems...


New Part Number is J7934A it is newer version and costs about $75.00 . To test the jet direct, press menu and then information, print the configuration page, if more then 1 sheet comes out 1 will be for the jet direct if this prints there is nothing wrong with the Jet Direct. however if you are printing through the network and you are getting any type of special characters like $%^ it is most likely a driver issue, uninstall the printer and reinstall using PCL 6. You can go to HP's wesite for driver support. Hope this helps.

NETWORK PRINTER WON'T PRINT SINCE WE HAD A POWER FAILURE TWO DAYS AGO.


Check the jetdirect for a green connectivity light. If it's there, carry out a cold reset on the printer. Power it off and hold down the green button, power it on,keep holding down the green button until all three lights come on then release the button. it should read Cold Reset on the front panel. Once it goes ready, you will need to go back in to the menu system and setup the Jetdirect card again with it's IP address etc.

Hello,

Have you tried sending print jobs thru the parallel port only? I think it has to deal with your jetdirect box. You can try reseting that as well.

Does this printer also have a parallel and/or USB port? If so, try printing to it via one of those methods to see if the printer itself is functioning.
I've seen this before with a 2200dn where the JetDirect box stopped responding, thus rendering the network side of it inoperable. If you have more of these printers it might be worth switching JetDirect boxes (if they're removable, as on the 2200dn) to see if that isolates the problem to a specific part of the printer (remembering the IP address stays with the JetDirect; not the printer!)
IIRC, replacement JetDirects for these printers are becoming hard to find, and expensive.

Oki ML 320 Turbo/D IBM - JetDirect 170x Print Server prolems


Check the receive buffer on the Oki. I usually set it to the highest (88k or 128k). You might also check the print head gap if you are printing multi part invoices. If the print head is too close it may overheat and stop printing. If you have a different printer, swap it out and see if it prints correctly. It may be a problem with the JetDirect 170x, not the printer.
