Question about LG Televison & Video

3 Answers

MW-60SZ12 has flickering pixels when there is movement on the screen.

I have a MW-60SZ12 and it has developed a problem where the pixels flicker (in rough vertical lines) when there is action on the screen...when the image is dark there is no flicker. The set has around 5000 hours for the bulb. Help please! - Ben

Thanks for that, however I was under the impression that the lamp brightness diminished (http://www.firstbulb.com/question.cfm?yi...) rather than the effect that we are getting - flashing pixels of colour, like static but in vertical lines...and mainly when there is colour movement on the screen.

    Any idea?

Thanks Dan :) I have just tried to reseat all of the cables, however it doesn't matter whether the input is a standard video cable (the yellow one), a RGB input from a PC or a component input displaying 720p... still the same flicker.

It does seem to be a problem that a lot of people has, but for the life of me I can't find why ... although I am feeling pretty positive with your post so far!

Sounds like a gun issue.
Use the "continue with this expert" option after you hear back from LG.

Thanks for using FixYa!!

Given the nature of the signals internal to these sets, poor connections can cause odd symptoms like this. Basically, LCD panels let light through by changing the orientation of the crystals inside the panel. If there are glitches in the digital signals, the panels will get mixed up directions that can result in the symptoms you describe. The signals are presented on the X=Y plane and a glitch in one address line will look like a vertical or horizontal line. If the unit is no longer under warranty, I would first reseat all of the connectors and cables that are inside. If that fails to resolve the problem, then we must look at the logic circuits.

Try the reseating and update this with your results. Let's try the simple stuff first.

Thanks,
Dan

I'm sorry if you mis understood. I was not speaking of the cables external to the set, but the ones inside. The source of the video will make no difference. The problem is internal to the set, not a source. Once the signal enters the set, some processing occurs and all signals end up in the same place. It is after this common point that the problem lies. I'm not familiar with your specific model, so I don't know the exact parts, but there are some that have individual LCD panels for each color (RGB) and others that have what is called a "light engine". I am looking for more specific info on your model and should be able to get more details. At this point, try reseating all of the "internal" cables and connectors and report the results.

    Stay tuned for more.

    Maybe good news...

I was informed that these sets have a known problem with the light engine and that LG has fixed some of these even past the warranty period. At this point DO NOT open up the unit. Contact LG and request warranty service. Indicate that this is a common problem and that you are aware of others that have had this resolved even past the standard warranty period. You may have to speak to management levels to get this resolved. The longest I have found is 6 months past the warranty expiration.

    Keep us posted.

Unfortunately at this point, your only recourse is to replace the light engine. This is not a cheap part. I have no access to the service manual for your model (not a USA model). So I can't get the part numbers, but a little research at some local parts suppliers should get that info for you. Call around for the best price for the part. Changing it should be fairly straightforward. If you are not confident working inside the set, check with a local servicer. The installation should not cost more than $150 or so for the labor.

    Good luck.

MacBook Screen Problem

Hi there
If I understand you correctly from start up the screen is dim but does brighten up after time? But now after start up you are getting a flicker how ever a restart solves this.

On the dimming issue. Check your energy saving settings and brightness key is working OK.

The flickering is a bit of a concern.

Just a couple of questions.
Are there any dead spots on the screen? Areas where there are no pixels.
When you tilt the screen forward and backward, does this effect the brightness or flickering?

Flickering screen of my lifebook s series

This sounds like a loose connection. If you can press on the back of the lid and it flickers or stops flickering, then it's definitely a connection problem. You will need to take the bezel around the screen off, the screws are hidden under small sticky tabs or the small rubber bumpers. Then take the screen loose and check the connection on the back. Replace the tape on the cable, if there is any.
