Dark area on left side of screen of Dell Inspiron 1525

The screen is visible, but it looks like the backlight is not working. It is just dim, and only on the left 1/3 of the screen I sent it to support and they changed the backlight. It was ok for a while, but now it is dark again. Besides after that it made a noise and a screen flicker a couple of times. Last time, the one time noise that sounds like a small electrical shock sounded and the screen became completely dark, tho I could still see the window I was working with using the light from the room. As I was trying to save my files in the dark the battery died and I plugged the AC adapter. I turned the pc on again and the Dell logo from startup was already visible, tho the screen has the left side dark again. Does anyone believe the inverter is the problem? The support guy told me he tested my inverter and it was good...

Ok , i have had this problem on bolth my dell inspiron laptops , on a 6400 and a 1525 . the 6400 had the lower left corner all dark and the 1525 was split right down the center . i fix bolth of em in a really simple way , turn on ur pc and go into windows , press the blue Fn button and the down arrow untill ur brightness from ur backlight is completely down . keep it that way with the screen on with a screen saver for about one hour then turn brightness back up but not all the way up cuz in my case the problem hapened again , but when i keep it just one click darker , boom problem fixed . from what i can figuere out is that the inverter aint powerfull enought to power the backlight and tends to over heat , so keeping the backlight a bit lower tend the keep em ok

Can you restart your DELL and keep pressing F2 to get into the bios. Is problem the same in the bios?
If fault is visible in the bios do static discharge.
Turn off DELL take out Battery and unplug from mains. Disconnect all external devices.
When this is done, press power button and hold for 20 seconds.
Connect DELL to the mains without battery and turn on. Go into bios again. If fault still visible you need to replace either Inverter or LCD as this might be one of the lamps in LCD (not sure if this model is double lamp.
Please leave your feedback if issue is solved or not.

Trying right now, I hope this works. Everything right now is pointing at an overheating issue as the left 1/3 of the screen on this 1525 gets darker the longer it is running. Thanks for the added idea!

The inverter powers the backlight so my initial thought is the inverter. And they don't cost a whole lot usually so it would certainly be worth a try. If it's not the inverter, check to make sure all cables are tight then the next step is the screen.

My dell inspiron 1525 notebook brightness is goes down,it looks very dark, whatshould i do?????

Press the Fn key and the up arrow key simultaneiously, this should increase the brightness. (down arrow key reduces the brightness)

If this does not increase or decrease the brightness, then the problem should be with the backlight or the backlight circuits. Please contact Dell for a replacement of the LCD panel (if your computer is in warranty) if not contact a local tech who can replace the LCD panel or the Backlight for your laptop

Hi I have Dell XPS M1210 laptop. When I turn on the screen nblinks for a second and then goes real dark. at first it look like its gone blank but if you look closly, the screen is on but very dark. I...

farooq473, replace the Inverter.

1) An LCD screen cannot produce enough light by itself. A Backlight is used to help provide the needed light.

2) An Inverter is used to provide power for the LCD screen, and the Backlight.

An Inverter boosts power up for the LCD screen, and lowers it for the Backlight.
90 percent of the time a bad Inverter is the problem.
A Backlight usually goes out all at once, Inverters slowly 'die'.

Dell Support > XPS 1210 Notebook PC > Service Manual,

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/xpsM1210/en/SM/index.htm

In the list click on > Display
Now click on Display Panel.

Dell doesn't show, and describe how to replace the Inverter.
When you click on Display Panel, you are looking at an exploded photo showing the Display Panel removed.
Scroll down to the next small illustration.
Has 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 pointing to the Display Panel.

5 shows you a pull tab to release a flat cable from the Inverter. The Inverter is the small circuit board to the left of the pull tab.

This is not advertising for this website. Just an example to show you what the Inverter circuit board looks like.

This is Not a Dell XPS 1210 Notebook PC. It is a guide for replacing an Inverter in a Dell Inspiron 1525 Notebook PC, but I wanted you to have photos, and instructions for the basic procedure.
After you have repaired over 100 laptops, you'll realize that they all have the same basic procedures.
Just different parts.

http://www.insidemylaptop.com/replace-lcd-screen-inverter-dell-inspiron-1525-laptop/

3) Be SURE ALL power is removed from the laptop before you start.
Remove the AC adapter (Charger) and Battery.

4) You should follow Anti-Static Precautions implicitly. It would be best if you bought, and wore an ESD wrist strap. (Electro Static Discharge) Connect the alligator clip to a good ground source.
(For example, I connect to the metal frame of an empty desktop computer case)

The cost averages from $3 to $12.
A $3 ESD wrist strap will do just fine.
This is an example of an ESD wrist strap,

http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Unlimited-ACC-1400-Static-Grounding/dp/B000EDMPQK

5) Use a multi-compartment container for the various screws you will remove.
Label each container for the area the screws came out of.
You DO NOT want to mix them up!

You can use a clean egg carton in a pinch. Label each egg holder.

Dell Inspiron 6000 Laptop Screen has Faint Image

It's a faulty backlight (screen).
Replace screen (same dell part number) with inverter, otherwise screen can be dark.
Here is how Dell part number looks (green):

Dell Inspiron 6400 - Screen visibility problems

This could be a faulty video cable or connector or CCFL lamp or inverter.
Try reseating the video cable/connector that connects to the motherboard first.
If this doesn't work then to determine if you have a LCD screen, inverter or video card problem, read this and follow these instructions.
Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Dark screen ,fn does not work

I would suggest connecting the laptop to an external monitor, just to make sure that it is all running correctly.

If you can see a very dim image on the screen then the backlight is out. This can be a light problem or the inverter that powers the backlight could be bad. The inverter is not real dificult to change and also is not very expensive. If it is the backlight tho, it is easier to just change out the entire screen.

Hope this helps

Do you have the CD's That originally Came with the Laptop? If so, put that in before you start your computer and boot from cd. While your computer is starting up it should say "Press any key to boot from cd" Press a key to load the Cd Diagnostics Program.

If not, go to support.dell.com - Click on Drivers - It will ask you for the "Express Service Code" of your laptop, which is marked on a label on the bottom of your laptop. Here you can download the Diagnostic tools (found on the cd) in the case you do not still have the cd.

Run the entire set of diagnostic tools. (They are very intuitive and easy to run) If they come back with a specific error code, you will know what the problem is.

You can then contact dell with the code & or the symptoms you are having at their number 1-800-624-9896 which is 24/7.

The problem could be a handful of things.
1) There is a plug underneath the laptop keyboard that may have came loose which can cause the dim image.
2)The graphics card has become dislodged & or overheated
3) The cord between the motherboard & Screen has become frayed.
4) The Backlight (lights right behind the LCD screen have gone out on the 1/3 of the screen) This scenario is only the cost of the lights and labor to replace them.

Tech Support will be able to narrow this down for you completely. If you do this on your own without them, you can void your warranty, in the case you have one.
