Normally what you actually get along with the hardware is an oem licensed software. So if what you have is for xp then i regret to inform you that you will be needing a different software that you may need to purchase. Now, if you are open for a different software aside from roxio, what you could do is go to filehippo.com and search for cdburner xp pro which is compatible with vista.

My HP Laptop running Vista does not recognize my older Mad Dog DVD + - R + - RW megaSTOR and seems to reject the Driver instalation (I have the disk but it was designed to be used on XP 2000/ Win 98/ME)...

Are you connecting it externally via USB, if yes then you may have to find the driver for the adapter for Win Vista.

Mostly it is auto detected in Win7.

Do I need software to get my comp to recognize a new Mad Dog Multimedia external DVD/burner drive?

Hello

Depending on which version of windows you are using, you might need to install the drivers for the device.

I know XP and older versions have a mush smaller internal driver database than windows vista or windows 7.

You don't necessarily need to install software to operate the device, just need the driver installed, then your computer will recognize the device.

Hope this can help you.

Kind regards
Andrea

My Mad Dog Dominator 5-in-1 External CD-RW+DVD-Rom doesn't work.

Here is a link from Microsoft for unrecognized external devices. Click on the "Fixit" button to install the registry patch. Hopefully this will get you going. Best of luck.

Need to know if i can get some drivers to upgrade

You can check with the manufacturer's website to see if they have vista drivers but vista has alot of dvd drivers built into the o/s so you can see if it recognizes the drive in device manager after the vista install. Hope this helps.

Mad Dog External DVD Writer

I don't know if I can be of any help here, but I purchased my Mad Dog Multimedia MEGASTOR DVD+/-RW burner a few years ago for my PoweSpec with XP Home Edition. I recently bought a new computer installed with Windows Vista Home Premium (which yes, I actually do love) and my external Mad Dog works perfectly, I didn't even have to update any drivers, it recognizes the drive everytime I plug it in (via USB). I don't need it anymore, but it's actually a better burner than the one that came with my system, which I bought new in March, although it's now discontinued. Do you have the disk for it? If so, have you tried running the disk again? What OS and processor do you have? In the event that it might be a matter of obtaining the proper driver for it to work for you, I also am a member of a great and extremely reliable site for free driver downloads. Free membership is limited to a few downloads within a certain period of time, and then you have to wait 24 hours, but other than that there is no limit so that's what I do. Just for the record, there was a period where my old XP was out of commission and I had to resort to my very old HP Pavillion that was about 10 years old, came with Windows 98SE(when that OS was brand new) and all I needed to do to make Win98 recognize the drive was download a driver and it worked just fine. LOL, that has a processor that runs at 600 megahertz, so you can imagine if my Mad Dog worked on systems like that, XP Home and now Vista Home Premium without a hitch, I was quite impressed with their products.

MacBook and Mad Dog Multimedia Compatible?

According to http://www.mdmm.com/spec.php?productid=160 (check the requirements tab, note that it doesn't work on firefox due to bad coding), it only supports Windows 2000 and Windows XP (even though it doesn't say so, it's likely it's also supported by Windows 98 and Vista) but unless someone made drivers for mac os x, it doesn't look like it'll work.

My external dvd burner is not showing up as a valid dvd drive

I don't think the burner is compatable with Mac. http://www.mdmm.com/products.php?categoryid=2 Here is the site. Check your model here. I only found Windows compatable. Good Luck, Tim p.s. someone out there must have some hacked driver.
