Question about Dell Inspiron B130 Notebook

1 Answer

Dell Inspiron B130 was black when turned on. Holding flashlight to screen, could see desktop and all icons. Was able to open programs, etc., while looking with flashlight. Replaced LCD Inverter listed for B130. It turned on fine, worked about 2 days, then started flickering, and went black again. Could this be power surge from motherboard, or backlight instead? By the LCD Inverter I purchased working for a couple of days, I felt like that was the problem, but something is knocking it out again. I have a similar problem! I have the same operating system and computer model and I updated my drivers last night because I had an issue with the screen turning green. The connection was alright and I was still able to hear my music, but the screen wasn't visible. It had happened also with purple once or twice before. But I forced logoff and it was fine. I updated the graphics drivers and it told me to restart, but I just shut down because it was late. I turned the computer on this morning and the screen had turned completely black. I just checked a flashlight and the screen didn't change. I'm not sure if it's the drivers I downloaded or a completely unrelated problem entirely. I'm able to work from it now because I have an external monitor hooked up. Lucky for me it works...

SOURCE: Dell Inspiron B130 was black when turned on.

You could have a defective screen - a defective inverter or a CCFL lamp.
To determine if you have a LCD screen or video card problem, read this and follow the instructions.

Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom:

  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

The icon display is taking up too much of my screen and I would like to reduce it.I can't seem to find the file that has that feature. I have done it before but can't remember how.

Hello amionalden, to make the [Icons] smaller; do the following. From the "Desktop Screen" paul7of9_74.jpg (Right) click on the "screen," there will be a 'list' of items, choose the "View." when you point to it a 'side window' with the [Arrow] will open. There will be another 'list' example: Large Icons, Medium Icons... Choose the {Medium Icons}, this will make them 'smaller.' "I hope this information is helpful? Thanks for using FixYa, paul7of9."

My dell inspiron b130 boots up but monitor is black

After your laptop boots up into windows, hold down the Fn key and as your doing that press the F8 button that should switch the output from the vga connetor to the LCD screen on the laptop.

If you still don't get video then you'll have to reseat the LCD cable from the back of the LCD screen to where it connects to the motheboard.

If you still don't get video then its either going to be a bad LCD or a bad motherboard.

Screen will not stay on

The first thing to check is the LCD or Screen inverter. It is a small board that at the bottom of screen. You have to open up the plastic part of the screen or LCD. Usually this part goes bad.

I am sending you a link of a sample from ebay,
