The company I work for, purchased additional phones, they are Avaya style. I tried to set up the voice mail greeting, and the default password I normally use, is invalid. How do I reset the passwords for these phones, so I can set up their mailboxes, and their greetings?

All Parther voice mail or messaging systems have a master login and password. It usually is 99 or 999 and the password. From that mailbox, you can reset the extensions and administer the system. Your system admin guide for the particular messaging system will have complete instructions and the default password for the administer. If you've lost the "master" password, you'll need to contact your Avaya dealer who can reset it through Avaya.
Methinks the welcome message is stored in you telephone set. Try another set, or enter a new welcome messsage. Could it be that the telephone line carries two different lines. Check with you telephone company. Older service may have not been deactivated.

Partner System doesnt have light notification feature if voicemail left on carrier site. I suggest you purchase small voicemail (4 mailboxes) for about $250 with installation and cancell your carrier voicemail service. You will be able to see new message light, also you can access your mailboxes remotely. It will pay for itself if carrier services cancelled within 7 or 8 month. It sounds like you are trying to change the voice mail recordings or at least the names programmed into the system.
Your phone model can be used on several different Avaya phone systems with different software versions and different voice mail options. You will have to determine exactly which system you have and the voice mail before starting to attempt this. Look for model numbers on the main control unit.
All the manuals are available for free at the Avaya web site www.avaya.com but you will need to first know what you are looking for.
You may find it easier to hire a local phone installation company that is familiar with your system to make the changes, but taking a look at the manuals doesn't cost anything, so give it a try! If you feel like you're over your head... take care not to make changes you are not sure of because you could end up making it worse. Just don't try things if you are not pretty sure that is the area you want to change.
Your telephone can be used on different Avaya phone systems and you can have different voice mail systems. They all program differently.
Someone should have administrative rights to the voice mail. They can delete voice mail boxes and create new ones or maybe just change the password. If you do not have a phone system administrator, you would need to determine what voice mail system and what phone system you have. All the manuals are available at www.avaya.com
Most likely you have a Partner ACS system but there are different versions. You could also use these phones on a Magix system and other Partner systems.
Did you have a password that is easy to guess? Someone may have changed your password on you. You will need administrative programming rights to the voice mail system to reset your password. Is there someone in the office that handles this or do you have a company make changes and additions to your system?
