I have an XL-6000; I do have SewWare 1.0 and blank Smart Media cards, which are easy and inexpensive to buy, as well as a Smart Reader. I had heard that those converter boxes were temperamental, and they're not available any more anyway. However, there is a quite easy and inexpensive way to get your designs to your machine. Simply purchase Smart Cards (used for cameras, by the way) an inexpensive reader, and SewWhat-Pro (do a Google search) to write to the card. Your Singer needs a specific format written to the card, so just copying to the card won't work; however, SWP allows you to open the design, and then in Tools --> Media Writer, allows you to specify your reader AND the format you need for your machine, including Singer. It's also an excellent editing program, AND you can try it and all its features free for 30 days to decide for yourself. No, I don't work for them, but I'm a great fan.

We have found this FTDI chip in the cable which is listed below:

Any USB to serial adapter with an FTDI chip will work. These cables will work for Windows XP, VISTA, and 7.

When I try to install on a new computer I get an error message that my converter cannot be found. I saw this problem on the psw website, and did what was recomended, but that did not solve the problem.

You would need the right driver for your device to get this work properly. If google is of no help, just send the model numbers of device and operating system to and they will come back with a solution.

Sew-ware does not come with the sewing machine. You just have the conversion tool. Professional Sew-ware 2.00 converter box is sold optional. Do a google search and you will see what I am talking about. Your sewing machine reads from a smart card that comes with the PSW 2.00 converter box. There is a cable that can connect your machine directly to your computer...Terrie

I bought a XL6000 from a friend and it came with Sew-Ware Conversion Tool software. I'm trying to load onto my laptop which has Windows Vista. I can't get it to come up. Do I have old software?

To either transfer/transmit from a computer to the XL6000 or for the XL6000 to recognize/read a design card: The Embroidery attachment must be attached/installed on the XL6000.
Additional information can be found at the Singer Co support site:
I found the FAQ section very helpful. (I printed it out for future reference.)

The problem is either compatibility; try right clicking on the icon and selecting Properties and then Compatibility tab. Click on run this program in compatibility mode for: and try the different options. by selecting, clicking ok and trying to run the program and if it does not work then select the next one. Or it could be a failed install either your ant virus picked up something and corrupted the install or the computer must have been running a lot of programs at the same time. These kinds of problems are usually solved by switching off any constantly running programs such as antiques, firewalls etc until the program has been installed and then enabling them when installed.
