Question about Acer Veriton 7600GT PC Desktop

2 Answers

This problem occurred after returning home from vacation after turning power on and surge protector.

Mary: I have a dell desktop. If my computer needs a restart or a reboot, when it tries to start back up or restart it will get to the windows xp screen where the lights are flashing, like it is loading, but it just stays there and wont boot on up like normal. I will then have to hold in the on switch to make it go off. Then it will ask me to open in safe mode or last known good configuartion, then it will want a system restore. I am to the point now that I have no dates left to use. It keeps losing my printer driver and it's installation as well. In the process of all this mess the cd rom drive crushed my printer cd so I no longer have the driver and installation disk and it is not on the manufacturers list any longer. Please help????

May be bad hardware- You should disconnect any hardware prior to booting (printer, scanner, webcam) and then try booting up.

Sounds like you either have a virus/spyware issue or a HDD issue. I would start with wiping out the computer and reinstalling windows. If you still get issues like this after then replace the HDD.

Is it plugged into a surge protector? When the power comes back on to a lot of residents at the same time, a power voltage spike occurs that can damage electronics. All items that have any electronic circuits, need to be protected by a surge protector. Surge protectors do not protect against lightning strikes.

Power too computer will not come after power outage

Check your surge protector, it may have tripped due to a surge in power.

If you didn't have it on a surge protector you could have blown a capacitor in the power supply. In that case replacing those is pretty simple just 4 screws and paying attention to what and where you disconnect from the mother board

Can't turn my computer on and i have a yellow blinking light on my dell dimension E510

Do you use a surge protector? If you do, try turning off the power supply to the surge protector and switch on again.
There are a number of causes for this problem, the most likely being a PSU problem or a motherboard fault/failure. To check the power from the PSU to the motherboard, you will need a multimeter to make sure enough power is going to the motherboard. Also check the motherboard closely to see if there is any signs of corrosion or blackened areas, which could be caused by overheating components. Check for leaky or burnt capacitors.

My daughters xps 200 won't start, she presses the button and nothing. She has checked the surge protector that it is pluged into and it is OK... is there a reset button is there was a power surge??

most surge protectors have some sort of on/off switch and a reset button. If there was a surge then you would need to pres the reset button to get the surge protector to function again. If there was no surge then try using the on/off switch on the surge protector to see if that helps. Also try simply unplugging the power cord from the back of the desktop while the computer is turned off. This will sometime also help.

Dell Dimension 4600 model DMC has no power

The power supply is a good place to start, as it is easily checked by a local tech with a load tester and readily replaced, usually for about $30.00. It's possible the power switch itself has failed, but this is more unusual, particularly if it worked well before. If you didn't have the system plugged into a good surge protector, the power supply is what would take the hit.
Here's a good troubleshooting article that may help to shed further light on your situation, but I'd take the power supply or desktop in and have somebody take a quick look. A reliable shop will test it for free, and be happy to supply you with a new one for a moderate cost plus installation.
Then buy her a surge protector so it doesn't happen again, or worse...

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

My compaq sr1020nx wont turn on. green lite on power supply is blinking. power company turned off power and when it came back on this is what i found. computer was hooked up to a surge protector.

Surge protectors blow with excesive power not with drop and return spikes, and that doesnt still promise that it will not kill power supplies and motherboards. I would suggest a new power supply as they are all standard then see if it works. If not your motherboard maybe shot if it was on while it happened.

Tower won't turn on

Brandi,

Please check the following:

1. Make sure the the surge protector is securely plugged into the wall. Test this by plugging in a light / lamp to it, to make sure it's working.
2. Make sure that the surge protector is turned on.
3. Check to make sure that the power cable from the computer to the power surge protector is securely plugged in.
4. Check to see if the computer will power on now.

5. If this still isn't working, remove the power strip/surge protector and connect the computer directly to the wall.

6. If this STILL isn't working, try plugging your computer into a different outlet in the house to see if the outlet in your home might be bad.

6. If your computer STILL isn't powering on then I'm afraid the worse has happened, which is one of the following issues:

1. Bad power supply (they are cheap, around $20-40)
2. Bad motherboard (they are sort of pricey, around $50-200)
3. Bad CMOS battery (they are cheap, around $5-10)

I can fix all of the above and order parts for all of the above, if you are in need of parts.

I hope this troubleshooting guide helps you! If this resolves your issues, please mark this question as resolved and select my answer. This will assure customers that I can help them with their issues.

Thank you,
Larry Braziel
