Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

I have a 1995 Sear garage door opener that stopped working

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:''Table Normal''; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:''''; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:''Times New Roman''; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;}First symptom was no sound when either the remote or wallunit buttons were pressed, but the light came on. The door of course wouldn’trise via the opener, we had to manually raise and lower it.

I tried disconnecting the wall unit thinking possibly ofshorted wires. Then, when I pressed the remote, the opener turned on and raisedthe garage door, but then wouldn't work anymore.

Symptom #2 is that the green LED on the circuit board blinks5 times, pauses, and then repeats continuously.

Symptom #3, now, when I press the remote button (with thelight bulb unscrewed), I hear two clicks and the green LED on the circuit boardstill blinks 5 times, but the motor won't run. I took the outside housing offand it appears the gears are OK, they do not look stripped.

If I screw the light bulb back in and press the remotebutton, I hear one click and the green LED still blinks 5 times, but the motorwon't run.

Suggestions on what to do next?

The trolley (the part that moves back and forth and is connected to your door) of your opener is most likely jammed against the bolt just in front of the motor unit. You can remove the bolt or loosen the chain until your unit will run. Once the door is closed find the 'up limit' on the side of the motor unit and turn it about 3 turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Now replace the bolt or tighten the chain. Whichever you first did.

My Champion garage door opener opens by itself and the light does not come on

Look at the LED light next to the SMART/LEARN button on rear of the motor unit. You may need to remove a light lens cover in order to see it. If the light is flashing rapidly this means you have a stuck button on one of your remote controls. Take the batteries out of each remote control. When you remove the batteries from the bad remote, the light will stop flashing. This remote needs to be replaced.

If one of your neighbors remote controls is inadvertently programmed into your receiver, you door will open when their remote is activated. If this happens you will need to clear out your receiver and reprogram your remote controls. Press and hold the smart/learn button for 6 seconds or until you see the small LED light near the button turn itself off. If the above steps have been followed and the symptoms continue, there may be an electronic short in either the wall control button or the receiver logic board. In this case, remove the wall control wires from terminals 1 and 2 on the motor unit. Should the symptoms persist after the wires are removed, replace the receiver logic board. If the symptoms stop with the wall control wires removed from the motor unit, replace the wall control button, and the wires leading to the wall control button.

Remote does not open garage door

It sounds like the wall button has the lock feature engauged.

Is there a small green LED flashing inside the wall button?
Push and hold the lock button for about two seconds and the LED should stop flashing. This will unlock the garage door opener and your remotes should start working. You may have to reprogram your remotes and homelink again since you triedprograming in the lock mode.

Good luck.
