Adapters are available to convert it to the type that you need. Go to any good electronics store and tell them what your problem is and they will sell you what you need. I am assuming that somewhere on the edge of your laptop there will be an 1/8" jack for your headphones. The mike input should be adjacent to it.

I have recently bought an AKG Perception 120 microphone and plan on recording through GarageBand on my Macbook Pro, but no sound is coming through. please help!

You say you have a XLR to USB adapter....so the version of the 120 you have is the regular XLR version, right? Well if it is, it needs what's called "phantom power" to work. It looks like they have a straight USB version of this mic, and that's what you should have gotten if you didn't want to use anything else. If you still want to use this mic as is, I would recommend a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. I have one and it's great. I do have a pc though and I'm not sure about Mac. But it's a usb powered preamp that gives you two mic pre's along with headphone amp, and a volume control for your speakers and has phantom power built in. Great unit and around $120. NFI.

I bought this mic and I have a few questions: 1.

If the mic has a usb cord, plug it in any unused usb port. If it has a 3.5 mm plug look on the computer for a pink colored connector or one that has a mic symbol next to it. Should work on a Mac too.

The microphone on my ic014c webcam won't work!

if the microphone has a second cable with a jack plug ..than you have to use it in the pink inlet on the sound card ..and will work ..or in the mic in of the laptop ..
If there is no second cable (split cable ) with jack plug ..it means the mic is using the usb ..and in this case you have to get to the sound settings and select the usb for the mic ..Also select the usb for each instant messaging programs you use..to d that just open the program ...get to the tool options ..and select sound devices and under mic select the usb instead of regular windows default or sound driver ..

Does the cable same on both sides

No. According to its manual the cable on one end a regular male USB type A plug, and a 4-prong 3.5mm earphone-like plug on the other end.

I just today bought a Samson R21S microphone, and I plugged it into my laptop via the laptops microphone jack, and immediately had problems. It cuts off my voice in mid sentence, it wont get half of my...

Not really the mic's fault - just incompatible.
Your Samson mic is a "dynamic" type and the laptop is expecting a "condensor" type.
You could put the mic through a preamp first but easier to exchange for a more suitable type.

Hope this helps.

M-udio usb microphone

You should be able to plug your headphones into your computer and get sound that way, assuming your USB mic is plugged in. If the mic is a USB - direct mic (that is, if it is a microphone with a USB cable directly attached), you will only be able to use it with your PC or laptop. If the device is a mic pre-amp (with an XLR or 1/4" connector that your mic PLUGS INTO), then you should be able to use your microphone with any device that will accept that connection type.
