it tries to spin up, no, no, yes....

  • debbies869 May 29, 2009

yes i will try that, but i think it is probably the motherboard, the screen was working fine when the computer went off like the battery went dead and now it will not come back on even with direct a/c power. The power button light comes on and stays on for maybe 3 to 5 seconds and goes off.

From your description I wauld gues that either the screen is not working or you have a motherboard fault. do you have an external monitor you can test it with?

Dell d810 battery not charging

Instructions

1
Determine if the Dell Latitude D810 battery is defective. While less than 1 percent of batteries are defective, the possibility is still there. If the battery is new and only charges some of the way, it may just require a BIOS update to charge fully. New batteries that refuse to charge at all may be defective. Purchase a new laptop battery to replace the defective one.

2
Test the laptop power adapter to see if it's faulty. Run the laptop directly from the laptop power adapter and without the battery. If the laptop does not work with the adapter plugged in, the adapter is dead and you will need to replace it. The laptop battery may refuse to charge if the adapter is faulty. Charge the battery with the laptop turned off.

3
Insert the laptop battery into another laptop to test it. If the laptop battery charges in another laptop, the laptop's motherboard may be bad. Replacing a motherboard in a computer can be very expensive. If the cost to fix the computer is not worth the cost of replacing the motherboard, consider purchasing a new laptop.

4
Reinstall the battery to ensure all connectors latch properly. The latch mechanism that holds the laptop battery should click into place. If the latch does not close, remove the battery and examine the compartment for signs of damage.

5
Troubleshoot the BIOS to determine if there is a hardware problem. Turn on the laptop and immediately enter BIOS setup by holding down the "Del" and "F1" or "F2" keys, depending on the make and model of the laptop. When the BIOS screen appears, see how long it takes for the battery to charge down. If the battery does not last as long as the BIOS setup, a hardware failure may be the problem.

Dell latitude d810 power up issue

There is most likely either a problem with the power supply or else the CPU is overheating and causing a safety shutdown. There is not much you can do to check the power supply, but you can check to ensure that all ventilation ports are open and clear of dirt and debris. Also ensure the cooling fans are operating when you turn to unit on.

Good Morning,

Your problem has a very high probability of being the DC Power Jack which your power cord plugs into in back of the laptop. This is one of the most common problems to be found in laptops. It's extremely likely now that you've replaced the other two possible culprits.

I send all such repair work for my clients to one of several vendors on eBay. Simply go to eBay and in the search box type in "Laptop DC Powerjack Repair". You will be greeted with a good number of vendors who do this repair successfully as their main business. You should expect to pay $80 to $100 for the repair.

Best Regards,

Marcus

My Dell Latitude D810 won't even start up. All I have is the bluetooth light. Can you please help?

1. Take the battery out of the laptop & try to turn on the laptop using power adapter only. If the computer turns on, then the battery is defective & needs to be replaced.
2. Make sure the power adapter is not defective. Test the output voltage of the power adapter using a voltmeter. Compare the voltmeter reading to the nominal value written on the adapter or the laptop.
3. Make sure the DC jack is not loose or broken. A loose DC jack will need to be re-soldered. A broken one will need to be replaced.
4. If you have another processor which is compatible with your laptop's model, try swapping processors & test to see if the laptop will work.
5. The power button could be bad.
6. The motherboard could be defective & needs to be replaced.

Dell d810 will not power on

You said you tried another power cord, but what about another power adapter? Try jiggling the cord around and manipulating it back and forth a little and see if the led on your computer lights up. This type of problem is usually the power adapter and/or cord. What about your battery - does it boot with your battery?

Laptop Not Getting Power

There could be a number of resons for this. Some thoughts:
1) Was your laptop working fine before you bought this new adapter? Eg. did it work with the previous one.
2) Are you positive that it is compatible? You should check all the power ratings against the old adapter (voltage output, current output).
3) Make sure the connector that plugs into the back of the laptop is a perfect fit. Connectors have a + and -. The outside metal ring may fit, but the inside 'pin' may be too small and not making contact with the receving part of the laptop.
4) Make sure that the connector inside the laptop has not broken. Easy way is to get a pencil with eraser and stick it in there and wiggle it around. If it moves sustantially, you may have some connector pins that have become unsoldered. If so, you need to get this fixed.
