Need more info:

Is your Garmin hooked up to your engine's computer via an NMEA 2000 data cable?

The gauge option will not appear in the menu if the GPS does not recognise the data coming from your engine. (If you turn on the GPS simulator, you should see the gauges on that screen.)

There are 3 possible reasons that the gauges do not appear in the menu:

1) improper wiring between engine and gauges.

2) GPS has not been set up to receive data in the GPS's NMEA setup menu.

3) Engine has not been set up to send NMEA data.

This is a relatively new feature that only works on newer engines that are NMEA 2000 capable, such as Volvo and Evinrude Etec.  The engines usually need an optional instrument package to make use of the NMEA 2000 system.

We're just scratching the surface here, please reply with any questions.

How to disassemle garmin 4208

If you have the correct soldering equipment and have the replacement part, it shouldn't be too hard. You'll need a jewelers screw driver to get the small screws out. Use a guitar pick to pop open the case. Work it around the case until the back half separates. Clicking and popping sounds are normal. Take out the battery wires. Do NOT yank on the wires... gently grab the plug and wiggle it loose.Remove the screws holding the board to the case to expose the solder side and remove the broken power jack.

How to hook a uniden vhf radio to a garmin 4208 for nmea operation?

Hi
I realize this question is old, but for the benefit of someone else who might have the same query, the NMEA 0183 outputs from the 4208 are the gray (+) and black (-) which go to the data in of your DSC VHF. The data OUT from your VHF connect to the white (+) and black (-) of the 4208.

If using NMEA 2000, using the second link below, start on page 10.

The installation instructions are about halfway down on the link page and can be accessed directly from the install link below if you prefer. -Steve

Approach G5 screen say cannot unlock maps as soon as you turn it on. Suggestions?

There's information on how to unlock maps on Garmin nuvi satnavs at http://www.fixya.com/support/r6197735-no_detailed_maps_found_support_routing. I don't know if the approach G5 would unlock in the same way but there's a good chance it would since they're both made by garmin. All I can say is have a look at the information on the link, check if the information you need is available on myGarmin and if the same files are on your GPS. If all these are the same it should work.

I have just hooked up a garmin 4208 with a 76x antenna along with a transducer. I turned on the unit and its showing my location as Miami but im in the caribbean. I also have the caribbean and southamerica...

You will have to leave it on for a while to sync up with the satellites. Once it settles in it will always find your location quickly unless you leave it off for a long period or move it a long distance since you turned it off.

On the GPS Garmin the radar screen shows our boat turned the wrong way. How do you turn the boat around on screen?

My husband moved the boat slightly and it seemed to correct the radar screen somewhat. He is working on the whole boat at present so didn't want to take it completely for a drive down the river. If we have further problems we may call in or use the web site.

Thanks,

Farrar

Make sure all three T-connectors are connected and that you connect the YELLOW cable to the last one. This yellow cable will need to be connected to power. Then you will get GPS link up.
