Realtek rtl8101 wireless adaptor not recognized

I have a gateway laptop model number W350A and I just restored Vista home premium on it. I fixed this 2 years ago with professional help but it came back! I can't get Vista to recognize my wireless adaptor. It says its there under the device manager and I updated its drivers up to 6.222.504.2009. Vista also says I have no wireless network adapter installed and configured. It also says under Network Connections that the Realtek card is my Local Area Connection and it has a network cable unplugged. Thats it. I also can't remeber how to keep command windows open after they run like ipconfig / all to give you more details. Thanks for the help.

"It also says under Network Connections that the Realtek card is my Local Area Connection and it has a network cable unplugged. " that's for your wired connection so don't worry about it...

Here's a couple of things to check, make sure your wireless switch is in the on position on your laptop...go to "My Networks" and click "new connection" and follow wizard for home and small office wireless>>have you had to input your WAP Key yet? it will not connect unless WAP key is input..let me know and we'll take it from there...good luck

Yes you can upgrade the hard drive.

You just need to pull it out and find if it is a SATA or an IDE

SATA has slots and IDE has pins.

Can I upgrade my Gateway laptop model W350A to Windows 7?

I have this laptop, too. The model number on the bottom is W350A and the screen case has a label that says "T- Series". So, what is the model number if not W350A?

You need to install the wireless drivers.
All the Gateway W350a drivers are available from here: http://rapidshare.com/files/106560686/drivers_laptop_gateway_w350a.rar which has a free download option.

I reinstalled Vista Home Premium on my wife's Gateway laptop, but can't connect wirelessly to the router. Windows can't find the adapter (it's built in).

As you re-installed vista, you probably need to load the drivers , sometimes these are supplied as a seperate CD or you can go onto the manufacturers website and download onto a working PC and then using USB thumbdrive or write to a CD copy to the faulty machine
as we do not know the exact model i can only direct you to the support site http://support.gateway.com/support/default.aspx if you put your serial number into this site - should show you all the drivers required

Plug in an ethernet cable into your ethernet card port on the left hand side of your laptop. When it connects to the internet click on the Windows update icon in the system tray. It should show you a Realtek Wireless RTL8187b wireless adapter driver update. Install it, you may need to reboot, but in any case you will have wireless networks available to you and you can pull out the ethernet cable. Good luck.

Sony Vaio running Vista Home Premium has stoped

Sony Vaio is one of the most unreliable laptops known to man, and some known to monkeys. My suggestion- save everything you want on cds/dvds and reload whendoze. After that, send it back to Sony if you can.

Vista Wireless Problem: Intel Pro/Wireless 3945ABG

Hi Pete,

You sound like you know what you're doing, so forgive me if these suggestions seem foolish or patronising..
Does your laptop have a wireless button?
8f45b35.jpg

When you go to Internet Options and click the Connections tab, have you checked 'Never Dial a Connection'? This is essential..
I have exactly the same ethernet card and network adaptor, but haven't had any problems, and we have 2 laptops and 2 pc's here all detecting our router okay so..
It's definitely not MAC filtering on the router, as you would still see the network in your list..
I can only suggest uninstalling the Intel Pro Wireless driver and downloading a fresh one from here.
That'll reset default settings at least..
Hope this helps
Let me know how you get on.. If I face this problem I want to know how to fix it too!
