Question about Philips Magnavox 50ML8105D 50" HDTV DLP TV
I have 2 Converter Boxes Magnavox TB100MG9 (from Sears) and 3 of Magnavox TB110MW9A (from Walmart) and I hooked up all 5 boxes. Still getting "NO SIGNAL". I was told that there are defective boxes out there and possibly that was why I wasn't getting any digital signals, but I'm finding it hard to believe that 5 boxes with 2 having a different model no. are all defective. I contacted the local TV station Chief Engineer and he gave me the Digital channel they were using and still I had no signal. Then I found out that our PBS station went to a digital channel and I tried that too and still NO SIGNAL. Should I just wait until June 12th and see if I get the signals after the TV stations are operating at full power for digital?
I don't know why the government is not being more honest on the converter boxes. Indoor antennas do not work. If you want to spend the rest of your life adjusting the antenna and never moving when watching the tv, then you might pick up a channel or two. You need a outdoor antenna. I have two Magnavox boxes hooked up to the antenna. They work fine. The problem with the magnavox is that they do not have many holes to let out the heat thus they overheat if you leave them on top of the tv.
Antennaweb.com recommends a much stronger outdoor antenna then I needed. There is no such thing as a digital antenna. Most of the digital channels are being broadcast on UHF instead of VHF. They are selling most of the VHF channels for cell phone use thus that is why we are being forced into this mess. Some channels will still be broadcasting on VHF thus you need a outdoor antenna that receives both. Your local home improvement store will have all the supplies you need. Make sure you attach the antenna so that it does not move in the wind as this will cause you to lose signal during windstorms. You will need to split your antenna wire for each tv from the antenna.
Most of the people working in the big box electronic retailers do not have a clue on what they are talking about. They are feeding you information from a script. Their goal is to sell you the most stuff they can, even if you do not need it. They act like they know what they are talking about but when I push them for detail, they know very little.
Once you hook up the outdoor antenna and adjust it to pick up the most channels, it's picture is as good as cable, Mine is more reliable then my neighbor who has Directv. Plus you pick up the signal quicker thus when watching games like the superbowl, you cheer a good 15 to 20 seconds before those with Directv even know what is going on. Getting the digital signal to work is a pain but the end result is a picture equal to cable.

THERE ARE SOME CHANNELS that already transmiting in DIGITAL , so the only thing that we need to do is to re oriented the ANTENNA,depending of your location and how far are you from a transmiting tower, try to reach the chief engineer again & explain the situation and what type of antenna youre using , hope this helps AJ
