Question about Samsung HLM617W 61" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Hlm617w issue I bought this set new in '03. I have since replaced the color wheel and gone through a few bulbs. Recently, after turning on the set, I got mostly darkness except in a few areas of the screen where the image was trying to come through. Then nothing except a few horizontal green lines. After awhile I got the 3 flashing led's on the front. Just put in a new bulb with no improvement. The set will now just blink the middle led and show a couple green lines. I have to unplug to shut off.

Replaced the balast, tv not longer turns on and off but now it has a kind of pulsing picture. Am I looking at a new bulb? a new color wheel ? or some other surprise that I haven't heard about?

Lamp is possible especially if the ballast was bad--it powers the lamp.
Color wheel will usually display some issues--high pitched whine or fan like noise---with the lamp removed look where it faces--color wheel is there--any broken or missing pieces and it is the problem---

The wheel is directly connected to the set---set will detect if wheel not moving or moving too slow etc and almost instantly turn the lamp OFF.

Samsung p6163wx - lamp sign flashing with a loud noise fan on, no picture. Replaced with a new bulb - did not solve the problem

This set may use a color wheel if it has a lamp. A bad color wheel will make a fan like or high pitched sound.

If the wheel actually shatters (it can) the set will not function and will turn the lamp off.

See photo of color wheel and if you need to know I can tell you how to look at it.

Samsung dlp tv will power on then shortly after I have three lights flashing and it shuts off with lights still flashing, this happened back in april, I replaced the bulb and now its doing it again....

This is a suggestion and not a solution to your problem.

I would watch from the side or rear while someone tries to turn the set on: Does the lamp light even for a few seconds?

Second: I would also with set unplugged remove lamp cartridge and look at the color wheel: is it intact and not shattered?

The color wheel can make a high pitched or fan like sounds before it fails.

If after you examine the color wheel you find pieces are gone etc it is your problem and not the lamp; it faces the lamp and if you look carefully you should be able to see if it is intact; I attach a photo of it for you.

Before you rate this information let me know what you find or if you have questions.

I bought a used Toshiba 62mx195 with what u was told was only a bad bulb... great, bought and replaced bulb, now overtime I turn it on I have one color variance... either everything is blue or been or...

Make sure every input does that too. If not, you probably have a bad hook up from the device or the T.V. If not, it's probably your color wheel or DMB board.

Purchased a new bulb for our Samsung HL-T4675SX DLP TV in October. Less than 3 weeks after the bulb was installed, the TV would not turn on and the three indicator lights on the front of the TV came on,...

ballast failures are not that common in general. i would suspect the color wheel before the ballast. do you hear a whirring noise when the tv is trying to turn on. sometimes the color wheel will not spin correctly and the tv will not start as a result.

The squealing noise is a defective color wheel. When the color wheel does not get up to speed (or stay up to speed) the set will shut down with the blinking you describe. You need to replace your color wheel or have a tv shop replace your color wheel.

How long does a lamp/bulb of a Toshiba DLP 46HM95 46 in last?

Your bulb may be blowing because of airflow issues or power cycling issues, first does your outlet get switched off at any point in time? if so you may be killing the bulb before it cools, if you turn the set on/off alot and or restart it after off quickly this could lead to permature bulb failure, if the original lamp was not replaced with a proper lamp to match the ballast it could blow the bulb. If your tv is too near a heat vent or the airflow thru the set is not adequate it could blow the bulb.
