GA-7vm400am f sound card doesn't work

I have a PC running on GA-7VM400AM F motherboard. I just reinstalled it with WinXP Pro SP3. The problem is it's soundcard won't work. It has an exclamation mark next to it and an error code 10 shows up on device properties. The card is recognized as PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3059&SUBSYS_A0021458 I downloaded all the drivers provided at gigabyte site for this MB, but it doesn;t work. Please advice.

I have lots of reinstallation on daily basis and lately i use slipstreamed version of WinXP pro with SP3. I didn't have much problems with it, except the one mentionedhttp://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.... (not related to this particular problem). So babes_ganda0 it's not it. Also I know I can buy a new soundcard but that was not the question.
pin_0018 thanks for the link. But when i saw your post it was too late. I've solved my problem in a bit convoluted way.
pob-h the MB has the sound card integrated. I know it's drivers fault, but you told nothing specific.
gyan122000 thanks i tried that. The problem was as pin_0018 mentioned - there were no drivers on gigabyte site next to the MB model. First i thought it sould come with chipset - but inf file shows nothing like sound.

The way i solved it is not recommended. I did this only as an experiment that eventually worked. I googled some more on PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3059&SUBSYS_A0021458 (this is the device_instance_id found in device manager->failing device->properties->details tab)
Using search got a linkhttp://st.mengrai.ac.th/users/9670/m12/D... and saved it. Then i right-clicked on .inf and selected install. The install process asked me for missing files which i also googled and most of them were found in www.filewatcher.com. A very nice resource.

I know i could have downloaded and installed the wrong versions of separate files - that's why i say it's not recomended. But it worked.

    Once more thank you.

Error code 10
Device is not present,or not working properly,or does not have all the drivers installed.
Make sure that the card is inserted properly, if that doesn't work, update the drivers from thr drivers tab.

I would like to upgrade my Gigabyte Ga 7vm400am motherboard but I don't have much cash (does anybody??). Would a CPU upgrade make the PC very much faster ?

Depends on what you have in it at present, you can put in an XP3200 barton core which I think is the fastest chip at 2.2 GHZ. This link will give you the cpu compatibility

Personally, I'd keep my eye open for a half decent 775 board and chip... becoming very cheap now on ebay and sacking off the old 462 platform

Hi,

Can buy DDR2700 (333) Corsair XMS RAM - it is not alot more expensive but considerably higher quality than run-of-the-mill generic RAM.

The Radeon 9700 is a very good choise of card and it is not overly expensive - and everyone else will recommend it

Personal opinion.

Thanks.

Graphic card for motherboard

Looks like you have a AGP 8x (3.0) slot. You can find a multitude of AGP cards here, and at a low price.

ok - what is your board number? usually it is printed on your motherboard. Eg. ga-7vm400am. it could be just numbers as well. When you get that, google it + sound drivers. you ought to find the link to download it. Alternatively you can try downloading everest, run it, and will it give you your soundcards model, google that and you will get your drivers. good luck
